Can I pull a 355 qbq with a dodge 2500 single axle

I have a Dodge 2500 single axle MegaCab diesel, and I'm interested in a FR Sierra 355 QBQ. Can I safely pull this 5th wheel with my truck?

Not sure what year your Ram is, but for the 2011, you paylod is around 2500# and your towing capacity is around 15,000#.

According to the FR website, your 355 QBQ GVWR is around 13,900.

So long as you keep your trailer in check, your truck should be safe to pull the trailer. Just keep in mind the dry weights are more fictional than truth, but the constant is the GVWR.

i should have mentioned...the year is a 2006. I'm afraid it isn't enough. i think the max weight is 12900. the FR sierra is a 355QBQ - similar, but a bit lighter.

The safe pin weight on a 14000 pound 5th wheel camper falls between 15% and 25% of camper weight.

15% of 14,000 pounds is 2100 pounds add 200 pounds for the hitch alone and your cargo load is 2300 pounds MINIMUM.

The optimum pin weight is 20% of camper GVW or 2800 pounds plus 200 for the hitch equals 3000 pound payload before you put your family and anything else you want to fit in the truck.

I do not believe you have enough truck payload available in the dodge RAM 2500 to carry 3000 pounds in the bed.

You may be able to PULL this camper; how far before frame failure and how do you stop it would be my concerns.

I tow the same unit with 2005 F-250. With no problems. Did install airbags. Towed it up to 70-75 mph for short periods. I have about 3500 miles towing so far. Its madden voyage was bringing it home from Ohio to Louisiana 1000 miles. Yeah I'm probably overweight but works for me.

Either case ... and, yeah, You realize that air bags do nothing to increase the tow capacity/rating of your tow vehicle .... Just saying it ...

I hope nobody gets hurt when the inevitable happens if you are overweight as you stated. Did you ask your insurance if they will cover you as you are probably towing something you should not be ?

Yeah Probably smart butt. Like i said probably. Never had it weighted. My truck is good for 2700lb payload and 17k fifth wheel towing. And yes I'm aware of the airbags not adding towing capacity. Thanks for all your professional towing advise.

Here is my professional approach, since you were very friendly :

F-250 Diesel 6l tow (5'th wheel) capacity (Assuming 4X2, and automatic transmission, anything else is lower rated) I believe you have a 4X4 since you claim to have a payload of 2,700 Lbs. So you look ok on the 5'th wheel weight side you can tow.

3.73 : 15,900
4.10 : 16,100
4.30 : 18.600

But, at GVWR your 5'th wheel will have a pin weight which is very close to 2.600 Lbs. Since your payload is only 2,700 Lbs, I guess you always carefully keep your 5'th weight in check and ensure that it allows you to fuel the truck, get yourself and possibly the family in, and also makes allowance for the weight of the 5'th wheel hitch sitting in the bed of the truck.

And yes, you are probably overweight depending on how much you carry in your 5'th wheel. But of course, that doesn't make any difference for you, until one day it does all the difference.

Doesn't look like you have enough truck based on the numbers discussed by the other members ......I hope you are not really set on that trailer, or maybe it is a good thing, a TV upgrade with a new truck
