Can you hire a Tow?

I am sorry if this has been posted already, I am a newbie, learning my way around!

We have a 32' TT that I pull with a '12 Expedition. It pulls pretty well for a 1/2 ton and I am not afraid to pull it for a few hundred miles here around the Great Lakes.

Our FAMILY mostly lives in AZ, between Globe and Lake Havasu City. I am blessed enough to be able to work remotely and would love to spend 8 weeks in AZ during the winter

My question is: Is there a service or similar that I could pay to tow the TT from Michigan to AZ? I don't mind pulling with a 1/2 ton from Phoenix to Havasu, but I would never attempt that thtough the mountains and for such a log trip (maybe I'm just a whimp!)

Thanks in advance!

There are lots of tow provider like the ones that pull rigs from the factory. I think you need to take a broader view of the trip you see it as one long hard pull when actually it is a series of small pulls over a period of time while you work remotely. Give it some thought.

I'd try contacting the RV delivery services around Elkhart. While they mainly deliver new rigs for the manufactures they might be willing to tow your rig from Elkhart to Lake Havasu City...

It is better to have too much truck than to have too much trailer.

I don't know much about this service but you can check it out. You can get a quote to get your trailer moved.

They are out there. You might check with a local campground.

We've run into people who are not interested in towing their rig (usually a 5th wheel) and spend a few months in one location and get their rig towed to another campground.

It might be cheaper to see if the campground you want to use has 'park models' that they rent out monthly.

Probably a minimum of two dollars a mile. You could rent cheaper than that. You could pull it yourself just take your time thru mountains, make sure you have a transmission cooler and don't wait till the snow comes.

We had to have our fiver moved from one CG to another last year. We called around to a few different places and finally got a driver from a local dealer. Charged $2.25/mile while not towing (driving from their business to the initial CG and then driving back after dropping the trailer off) and then $3.25/mile while towing.

I pulled a 31' Salem with a 2008 Expedition. Only problem I had was going faster than 55mph and getting pushed around by 18 wheelers! I pulled it from Omaha to SC making overnight stops about every 300 miles. Seems to me a tow company would be very expensive. My maiden voyage included going to the AF Academy in Colorado Springs and the AFB in S Dakota both some hilly towing. But everything turned out great!!!

Sure you can. Expect to pay between 2 and 2.5 dollars a mile.

I thought Expeditions were built on 3/4 ton chassis.

There are a few different routes you can take that don't add many miles to your trip, mostly interstate or 4 lane highways that only have a few hills, no mountains, no twisty roads. And a trip from MI to AZ you will still see allot of US no matter which way you go. Compare those different route options with the tow services you can hire. Just check them out to be sure they are licensed, bonded, have a good record and tow with the appropriately equipped vehicles.

No, the Expeditions are a F-150 under their station wagon skin. The old Excursion was built on a F-250 chassis...

You might try getting some info from your local RV dealer about who delivers to them. I saw a You Tube video one time about one of the people who delivered RV's from the factory to dealers and it seemed they like to have something lined up when they get to the dealers. That way they are not just driving empty so to speak back to a starting point.

extended stay americia or vrbo. For what it would cost to tow it that far you could get one hell of a condo

I think I would change that to I-69-->I-70-->I-25 at Denver south to Albuquerque, then west on I-40.

I just did I-40 from Albuquerque to Flagstaff a couple of weeks ago (fourth time on that run), plus they could stop and 'stand on the corner in Winslow, Arizona as it is such a fine sight to see'!

John, the flatlander OP wanted to avoid the mountains. My recommendation for the southern route stands.
