Can you tow this?

We went to the camper & RV show and I saw this sign of what vehicle can tow what tt. Pictures are ok, I think you see what is what.
It struck me that some of this is rather misleading.

Every trailer at the show had one of these pictures showing what vehicle could tow what trailer. This often lead to discussions between the customers and salespeople discussing if their vehicle could really tow the trailer in question.

A couple of times I would interject and told the buyer that that was the dry weight is not loaded with water, food, clothes. propane, the kids bikes, extra camping gear like screen houses or tarps or tents.

I don't really see the problem. Those weights are fairly close to what my 10' utility trailer and Polaris Ranger are and the wife pulls it with her 2007 Ford Escape. We drag it about 230 miles every other weekend. In fact, my Polaris Ranger UTV would be able to pull most, if not all, of those trailers.

There is a local place that does something similar. A factory weight 4600lb trailer, saying a Jeep Liberty can tow it. Not saying it couldn't, but it will be over the North American tow rating for the Liberty.

Just keep in mind a hd truck has a payload of #1600 to #6000 pounds depending on the model.

Trailer salesmen are trained in this area a few minutes by a self educated older salesmen. A high school deploma is not necessary!

His guarantee only extends to the point the check clears.

Be careful. 50% of all vehicles leaving his lot are not ok.

Bigger is better.

can u tow this

No joke there is an Airstream dealer in Ontario Ca that sets up all kinds of CARS to tow the Airstreams. I've seen them at the RV shows & when asked about the weight limits of the cars apparently their is none. The owner of the dealership is hailed by RV magazines as an expert on towing

I have a 2018 Pacifica van and was surprised to learn my max tow weight is only 1500 lbs.
I just bought a 176 MAC PUP ,which about the smallest one available and it's over my max weight by 50lbs.

With 6 brakes on the airstream I can bet that, if the brakes are properly adjusted and he drives at 65mph max, that will stop quicker than some 1 ton truck towing 20K+lbs 5ers that we see driving at 80 mph....
I met a Canadian in Florida that was towing a 26ft camper with a Lexus 350...
His hitch was done by Can Am and he said he never had any sway....

Tow seems to mean hook it up and make it roll down the road. Just because you can tow it or the salesman says you can doesn't mean you should. All the math and paperwork has to be down with correct numbers before you should tow. Towing on flat even ground is quite different than pulling up hills or having that load behind you pushing you down the hill or trying to pass you. Look at all the pictures, dealers and sales pitches... they even have fifth wheels named 1/2 Ton... but that doesn't mean you really should tow with all 1/2 ton trucks.

Even found a salesman yapping to my wife at the show that our 2019 F350 SRW with tow package and 5th/Gooseneck installed from factory would tow this 19,000 5th wheel with no problem! Are you kidding me Mr? A 19K Lb 5'ver towed by an SRW and you don't even know what my weights are... I wouldn't even try.

Yup. Pretty sure I can tow every unit mentioned in the posts plus a whole bunch that aren't.
And I can stop real good too .

AMEN!

Towing on flat, level, dry ground is one thing. Add some rain on a banked hill and and watch the fun begin.
