Can't open the vent flap

We are newbies with a forester 2104R. Can't figure out how to open the vent flap for the gas range. Help!

I don't know if yours is the same but mine has two tabs that you just push straight up. They are pretty stiff and I can do one at a time.

If its like mine there are 2 small protrusions at the bottom of the flap. Push up and towards you with your thumbs (one on each protrusion). Wasn't easy.

When you get it open, just wedge a piece of pipe insulation, or pool noodle to keep it snug during travel. That way you won't have to deal with the hard tabs holding the flap closed every time. Just sayin'

Had same problem......Only mine had some caulking under the tabs and that was also holding it in place as it had hardened!!!!!Had to use a screw driver to pry it apart.... Now only use a piece of foam as a wedge to keep it closed............J

If you use pipe insulation or a pool noodle to keep it closed, will it open when you turn on the exhaust fan and reclose/reseal when it's turned off or do you have to do it manually? The vent on my MH is very high up and I have to get a stool or ladder to access it, which is the reason I avoid using the exhaust fan by not using gas for cooking. Gas sets off the CO detector anyway (even with the exhaust fan on), so I use an induction hotplate to cook. The exhaust fan would be good for removing cooking odors though.

Thanks for the info. We've been afraid to force it so I've been opening the window and turning on the fantastic fan. Okay, until this morning when we woke up to 42 degree weather.

If you don't open the exhaust fan outside cover, that could be why the CO detector goes off.. The more you open and close the vent cover, the easier it gets. There really isn't any need for ghetto fixes once you learn how to operate it.

In our old Flagstaff TT,,, the fan was not strong enough to blow the flap open,,, I used a close pin out side when we wanted to use fan !!! Had to remember to remove close pin when not in use,,, so the seekers could not get in !!!
It also had 2 little keepers out side !!!

Its a known problem. mine was so stiff one side broke when I tried to open it. just had it replaced under warranty. haven't tried to open it yet. I haven't heard of a good solution other with just living with it... lol
