Casting phone screen (Android)
I know, I know. When we camp we typically want to be outdoors and not inside watching TV. The only problem is that sometimes it rains. I do not have wifi set up in my camper since I am still just a weekend and holiday camper. So I am looking for a way to cast my screen, from Android Note 5 running MM, to my tv. The Note 5 does not have a corded option. It's wireless only. So instead of installing a router and buying more Chromecast or whatever, I am thinking about getting this Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter v2. Has anyone used it here? Does it work well? We would mainly use it for casting movies that I have downloaded from Amazon Prime. My camper did not come with a dvd player which is another option but it's just easier for me to use my phone as it is to install a dvd player in the camper. I can't recall the brand of tv that's in the camper so it may not even have usb or hdmi but I think that it does.

You do know Chromecast allows you to 'screen mirror' without a wifi connection?
Works great for downloaded Amazon Prime content.
I didn't want to type it out... so this is from the from the 'net...
For devices running Android 5.0 or higher:
Swipe down from the top of the screen to see the notification shade, then swipe down again to view quick settings.
Tap the Cast button at the bottom of this menu, then choose the Chromecast to which you want to mirror the display.
Exit this menu and head to whatever app or website you’d like to mirror.
To stop Casting, return to the quick settings menu, press the Cast button, then press the 'x' icon next to your Chromecast.
On all Android devices running Android 4.4.2 or higher:
Install the official Chromecast app from the Google Play Store if you don’t have it already.
Open the app, then click the menu button (a stack of three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.
Select Cast screen/audio from this menu, then press the yellow Cast screen/audio button and select your Chromecast.
Exit this app and head to whatever app or webpage you’d like to mirror.
To stop mirroring, return to the Chromecast app, open the Cast screen/audio menu and press Tap to Disconnect.

WHAT (long drawn out what) I did not know that. I will certainly be testing that out and thanks a bunch for the info!
All my chromecast at home are on wifi and I thought I had read that was the only way they would work.

Originally, it was.
New models and upgraded firmware (on older ones) has allowed this for at least a year that I know of.
I do it all the time.
We often take a Chromecast with us to view photos on the inlaws/relation big screens.

Hmm. I have 5.0 and there is no "Cast" button option.

I have 5.1.1.
Open the Chromecast app. (Google cast)
At the top left>tap the three horizontal lines.
On the slide out window> tap 'cast screen/audio'
WALA!
EDIT:
Following the directions I originally posted for 5.0...
Mine (AT&T) has a 'screen mirroring' button instead of 'Cast' button.
Does the same thing though as what happens from within the app.

Netgear Push2TV
I use one of these nearly every day at work. I teach and it allows students to push their content from their handheld devices to the projectors with 2 taps on their screen.
NETGEAR Connected Entertainment
Push2TV adapter from Netgear. I got mine for only $20 and it works
perfectly for most devices (I dont think it supports iOS) but other devices (and software solutions) do.

I believe on Marshmallow that "quick connect" in the drop down menu will also allow you to connect and cast/mirror the screen

Think about these when next time you slam the RV park for unusable/painfully slow park WiFi.
Cochannel and overlapping interference.

I am missing a step here. I found the screen mirroring on my NOTE. Of course I hit the button to see what happened - nothing. It scanned and said it could not connect to any device.
What does this connect too? What do we need to have plugged into the TV? We have smart TVs (smarter than their owners no doubt) so I think I am missing a step?
Thanks - very interesting post.

I brought my old chromecast and the new one. Neither one will cast without Wi-Fi. I have the Note 5 with marshmallow. There is no screen cast option. I tried "quick connect" with no luck. Bluetooth "sees" the new one but won't pair with it.

I ended up buying a dvd player that had miracast and it works perfectly with my Note 3 and my Note 5. I download movies for the nights that it might rain and we can watch them in the camper now.
