Chicago to Wash DC Trip Planning

Okay... first "big" trip. We're planning on heading out to Washington D.C.; staying at Cherry Hill while we're there. We plan on hitting the road for about two weeks so PLENTY of time! I have 5 days to get to DC since our reservations are set. However, my "quandary" is....what's to see between Chicago and Washington DC?

It seems, to me, that Indiana and Ohio are sort of "no man's land" as far as things to see. The one thing or stop over which I know is big is Sandusky, OH for roller coasters. However, neither of my kids are coaster fans! :-( Once we hit PA and east of there, there's a TON!! Anyone have some good things to see and do with a 13 and 9 year old? I'm open to all suggestions! :-) Thanks!

No suggestion other than the RV Hall of Fame near Goshen, IN.

Cherry Hill is an excellent CG. Stayed there in April for Cherry Blossum Featival. The bus stops at the front door of CG and take you directly to the METRO station.
