Class 8 convertion VS 1 ton dually 4x4

Converted class 8 road tractors advantages and disadvantages
I’m trying make a big decision on my last tow vehicle between a one ton pickup or a converted road tractor. I’ve read a “do and don’t” select list. Would our members who have faced this decision, please respond. Used road tractors are a lot less money. My wife and I want to retire seeing all the pride and beauty our country has to offer though camping.

Selecting the Right Truck - MDT or Class 8?

Everyone is different, but I don't think I could sell my wife on the idea of a class 8. Just looks and appearance -wise. Especially for "around town" sight-seeing. Though, folks like dblr have the best of both worlds- he carries a smart car on the rear deck of his for sight-seeing.

RVHaulers.ca seem to be the highly respected people and their website has lots of examples. On YouTube there are some great videos by them, especially the one where Gregg and his family tow a heavy TT through the Canadian Rockies to go fishing. One of those Volvos is in my dreams.

Thanks, to all of you for your quick response and support with the articles. You've given me new information. Now the salesman in me may have to come out. My wife is not keen on the concept of the tractor, but she hates wasting money more than I do. Be safe to all of you. God bless.

Studebaker - recommend you look at the forum "iRV2". Has sections dedicated to MDT and HDT conversions. My opinion (worth every penny) is that the latest 3500/4500 pickups will do everything a MDT will do. Unless you plan to travel full time and put 100,000 miles or more, the MDT is not the way to go. Opinions on the iRV2 forum seem to lean toward HDT or pickup.
