Coleman High Output Grill

My Coachman Freedom Express 281RLDS-Ultra Light has this Coleman Grill which is pulled out from the camper. Yesterday, i opened the compartment door, pulled out the grill and got rid of the bubble wrap and cardboard protecting the grill, etc..

The question is whether it is safe to use the grill when pulled out or should it be placed on a picnic table when in use. It looks like it is designed to remain on the pull-out sliders. I just do not want to damage the camper side.

Thanks for your helpful suggestions as I have never had a pull-out grill before.
