Question Colorado Great Sand Dunes National Park

We heard a comment from a distant friend about a July trip they took to Colorado. It was said that they were met in a small town outside of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve holding vulgar signage and using hand gestures for RVer's due to the consumption of fuel.

The friends said they wouldn't stay at that campground and forgave their deposit and drove to Silverton.

Can anyone confirm the potential issue ?

I'm from the Salida, Villa Grove, Great Sand Dunes area and have never seen or heard of anything like that. Lots of RVs, boondocking in the mountains around the San Luis Valley.

I pulled my trailer through Del Norte, Monte Vista, and Alamosa on 8/21/'19 and saw no sign of this - although I didn't go into the park.

If you go check out the Great Sand Dunes Hot Springs pool in Hooper as well as the UFO sighting campground. Maybe the sign was aimed at discouraging aliens from galaxies far away.

Late May and early June is our favorite time for the Sand Dunes. Unfortunately, the Park Service only opens some of the campsites before Memorial Day.

In late May and early June, the creek at the base of the dunes has water in it for wading and cooling off. The sand dunes don't become too hot climb until about 11am.

We didn’t see any signs on our way into the park. Due to the heavy snow fall this year the creek was still running on July 2nd a couple inches deep. I’m from the east coast so it was funny to see people in chairs like they were at the beach. We got there about lunch time and no way could you walk on that sand barefoot but plenty of people sledding.

I live in Colorado and travel trough that area all the. It is a beautiful area, very RV friendly...and I have never heard or seen anything like you mentioned. BTW...the Alamosa KOA is a nice park not far from the Great Sand Dunes

We went there this year and saw nothing of the sort and really enjoyed our visit. Go and have fun.
