Confused about year of the Flagstaff model

Hi everybody. Me and my husband are very new to an RV, just purchased our new 2012 Flagstaff 8528RLWS beautiful trailer but we have question. Dealer sold it to us as 2012 model but VIN number is 2011 is that normal? I don't won't to look stupid but I'm curious if that how dealership selling them.

Not normal. Might not even be legal. I'd contact the dealer and Forest River for an answer.

Does not sound right to me. I would understand if they sold you a 2011 and it ended up being a 2012, but not the other way around. If the VIN says its a 2011 then that is what it is, not a 2012.

Very unethical of the dealer if they misrepesented the model year of the camper. The bottom line is that in spite of it being brand new, you've alreay lost a full year's depreciation on the camper.

Dealers sell the previous year's models usually at a discount to compensate for the depreciation.

Do you have paperwork from the dealer showing your purchasing of a 2012 model?

Just a guess...But could 3/1/2011 be the build date and Forest River started building 2012's that early?

I do not have a good answer but just a guess.

Manufacturer's switch the model year in March...don't know if its March 1st, maybe it is.

I've checked on-line for RV VIN decoding. I believe that the 10th digit is a letter designating the year...A - 2010, B - 2011, C - 2012, etc.

Look on the license registration, that will remove all doubt. But I would take a pic of the tag on the side of the trailer and take it and all the papers and head for the dealer and start asking a few questions.

Well, we have to look careful at all the papers again and understand the numbers just to be sure. Dave you've been a great help with decoding numbers I'll check them tomorrow. Thank you everybody...

Cars are like that anything half way through the model year is considered the next model year.
snowmobiles are that way to there always manufactured in one
year and sold as the next.
I have 4 snowmobiles that are build date of 85 05 09 11 there titled as
86 06 10 and 12
