I used to know a fellow that was a radio operator in the Navy and he could receive at 50 to 60 words per minute, but only if he used a typwriter. He heard the tones and it went straight to his typing fingers. If you gave him a pencil to write it down or asked him what he heard, he was hard pressed to do 5 to 10 wpm. Guess it depends on how you learn.
I have trouble with code and never could get over 15 wpm. Took my Extra test and past the written with a perfect score but failed the code. That is why I only have an Advanced rating. Don't believe I deserve to be an Extra if I can't do 20 wpm. Just call me old fashioned . . .
