In reality, common courtesy has nothing to do with the decision to use the pump. If the pump dispenses both, it is fair game to anyone.

The common courtesy was extended by the facility by providing a diesel option to drivers along with their other 10 gasoline pumps.

Wait your turn and be happy you don't have to drive 10 miles down the road to another facility where diesel is available.

Exactly my point. at 0530 in the morning and no other cars in the parking lot, you pull in and the 2 pumps that have diesel are occupied by un attended vehicles and the 10 other pumps are all empty. FYI, these pumps are the furthest from the road and from the front door of the store. Just does not seem to make any sense.

Where did the thinking come from that says... "even though this pump dispenses gas along with diesel, please do not use it to pump gas. Go to another pump and let this one sit empty for the next available diesel driver!"

If you want to pull into a service station and have a diesel pump available, go to a diesel only facility. As long as the pump dispenses both, there is NOTHING wrong with dispensing either and you simply need to wait your turn to use it. Even if ALL the other pumps are sitting empty, a gas customer has every much a right to use that pump as a diesel customer.
