If you're in full compliance with the POSTED RULES, anyone who is unhappy can: 1~MOVE; or 2:consume feces and expire. Their choice. This DOES apply if you're using a QUIET inverter type generator or, the genset which is built in (and properly muffled) to an RV. ANYONE ignorant enough to use a cheap, LOUD contractor generator, should NOT be allowed within a mile of other campers, hikers, wildlife etc (and, be CHAINED to said LOUD generator until it runs out of gas).

Surprisingly, some of those "Contractor Generators" are within the noise limits for NP/NF campgrounds. They usually have an automotive type muffler rather than the pancake or lawnmower type mufflers. Louder than a Honda or other inverter types but still "legal". The Champion 3500/4000 watt unit with RV plus is one example. I still own one and have considered carrying it in my pickup in case someone complains about my inverter. I'd appologize for my loud generator, tell them I'm going to switch to another, and then drag out the old Champ.

Another poster hit the nail on the head. People who complain about generators that are within the rules are probably like that at home. I have a neighbor that hates dogs and if she hears on bark, even if it's a short bark to be let back in the house, you hear her shouting from her upstairs window "WILL YOU DOGS JUST SHUT UP!!!"

Sure glad she and her husband don't camp.

I wish all camp grounds had the same rule on " constantly " barking dogs. There is nothing more annoying than the constant yapping everytime you exit the camper. It amazes me that some find a fairly quiet Honda genny running annoying and yet revel in the joy of Fluffy yapping non stop for 6 hours. We left a nice camping spot on Saturday morning in Hoosier National Forest during Memorial Day weekend due to a non stop yapping Mutt.

No matter how hard you may try, and as someone famous said, you can’t please all the people all the time.

We have to use a generator for camping at winefest and vintage car races. The sites are very tight and I try to be reasonable. I have an EU2000 and a EU3500 so I can run AC. If it's 90 out and we are in the sun the generator is going to run. If the national park campgrounds are set up like Watkins Glen race track with sites that close something is seriously wrong. We only camp that tight because we really want to be there. I think national parks with our TAX dollars could maybe do better.

We've had not one complaint in 40+ tears of camping in parks where generators have been allowed. We ALWAYS run them during the allotted times and never abuse that rule.

If you visit a park where you are allowed generators, your neighbors generators are within the DB level specified and you complain when they run them during the allotted time frame, YOU are an idiot. Find another method of camping.

If someone abuses the rules.... that is a horse of a different color. Rules are made to be followed by EVERYONE and we as visitors don't get to make the rules, we simply have to obey them.

Yes... it is that simple!

I guess this is why some choose to boondock. You can have loud drunken parties, noisy ATV's, noisy dogs, noisy kids and inconsiderate use of contractor gen sets.
You can even practice with those devices with bang switches.

Newbie question, here...how do the noise complainers recharge their batteries, etc. during extended stays? 100% solar re-charging?

I would reckon the complainers probably fall in the category of tent campers, the RV campers are no doubt more tolerant of gen noise.
The politics of air pollution no doubt enters the mind of some complainers.

That sounds about right. I also have a Predator 3500 inverter generator.

I ran it at a state campground for about 20 minutes one afternoon, to charge up the camper battery.

That thing is quiet. So, if people complain about that level of noise as an annoyance, it seems like chatting, laughing, etc. would cause an uproar!

Miserable people look for stuff to complain about...

And I'm sure that some campers, like other aspects of life, consider themselves "holier than thou" when it comes camping etiquette.

Rant over....

This is a classic example of why threads get closed down.
The original question has been answered and discussed fully.
Other folks insist on posting just for the sake of arguing.
The thread has strayed from the original subject.
Some folks simply digging up things to complain about.
How is that fun, friendly and helpful???
