Crossing the CA/US border

The fam and I are heading to myrtle beach in a couple of weeks. Just wanted to find out if any one has any experience crossing the boarder the day before the long weekend in Canada. We are leaving June 30 and will be crossing at rainbow or peace. Just trying to get an idea of wait times. Thanks in advance

Depending on the time of day you could have a long wait. I have been in line up of up to an hour.

I know all to well about that traffic. Sit in it everyday. Luckily I get paid for it. Lol.

Border Crossing

Maybe you can find a web cam or a web site that gives you the info?

Border Wait Times might help.

Early morning like 3 am departure means you may miss all the traffic at the border as well as many small communities commutes in the morning.
we are heading to Maine on that morning and will be leaving at about 6 am putting us into southern maine in time to miss morning commutes in most cities with traffic.
Way to Spend Canada Day....

We long ago gave up on that crossing. We take Gananoque any time we can. Never any wait times and a pleasant experience all round. I'd choose the 401 traffic any day! Have a great trip.

The later in the day, the better you are. Those look like good times.

Being a long weekend in the US should have no effect on crossing from Canada into the US, US residents would be crossing the opposite direction thus using different traffic lanes.

There was an article in the BUFFALO NEWS after Memorial Day Weekend. The wait time into the USA at Peace Bridge was well over one hour on Memorial Day Monday. Our son was staying at Sherkston Shores and they left early, so they had no issue.

You can access border wait times on line - go to Canada Border Service Agency.
I cross regularly, but use Lewiston instead of the Rainbow, or cross at Buffalo, depending on the wait times and destination ...the most direct Interstate highway routes.

If you arrive early at the crossing at Lewiston you usually breeze through, but after 9 am you will have a wait. The U.S. customs at this crossing are thorough but fast. It is a commercial crossing for commercial truck traffic heading to the U.S.

Alternatively Buffalo also works.

At Lewiston you avoid the urban cores of Niagara Canada/U.S. Both Lewiston and Buffalo put you straight on to interstate highways for fast connections. Check your routes and final destination for connections.

I always avoid the downtowns, except mid afternoon when most everyone is shopping.

Hope this helps.

It's gonna be jammed up on the East coast as you head down too...be sure to take the 79/77 route rather than anything more easterly. Have fun!

That is to be expected, lots of Americans heading home from their long weekend. OP is heading into the US at the start of the Canadian long weekend, shouldn't be as near an issue.
The exchange rate has affected the numbers coming into the US also ;-)
