I would expect many of those RV Parks to be rented by Duke Energy and other reconstruction companies.

We had last week booked at Raccoon River RV Park in Panama City Beach which took s direct hit. When we saw where it was going to hit, we booked at Dauphin Island. If you can get into Gulf State Park. We couldn't but geocached the park for 2 days. We are now going to take our next vacation there by booking early.

I grabbed 4 more days at Top Sail just now. They had several sites open. Lucky for me I wasn't needing a weekend as those Fri-Sat reservations are getting very few and far between.

We might head west for winter 2020 but that's another story!

KyDan...

I also have reservations at St Joe in late February... I believe it will be at least that long if not longer before that campground is back operational.

I have already rescheduled for a campground closer to Pensacola.

The aerial picture tells a story... looks like the beautiful beach is even gone.

My other stop is Fort Pickens and their closure is described here.

We are spending some time in Navarre, FL in March. I do not think this area was hit by Michael but just a lot of rain. I will be checking with the resort in Jan to make sure.

Praying for all those affected but amazing images.

Our favorite state park, St Joseph Peninsula, is now an island. From these NOAA images it looks like the campground was washed over and there are two inlets now. Suspect it may be years if ever before it opens again.

Looking at St George and Fort Pickens near Pensacola, they just had roads washed over. Other parks along the panhandle look intact but I’m sure have repairs to be made.

As noted, camping isn’t important now and hoping for speedy recovery for those affected.

The Florida State Parks are on top of things. We had reservations for this week at two panhandle state parks. Before Michael hit I got recorded phone calls saying that the parks would temporarily be closed. After Michael hit and before I could cancel (thinking displaced Floridians could use our spots) I got a call saying our reservations were canceled and money refunded. The park websites are being updated with the status of various parks. Keep checking the website and plan from there.

Geez these comments! [Not referring to the helpful comments.]

Most places that have been impacted WELCOME tourist business back to help restart the local economy and provide jobs too -- BUT: when they are READY for tourists. The question is when they are ready, and in these areas the answer is not yet.

Some of the RV parks in Port Aransas TX were open and WELCOMING RVs by February 2018 following major Hurricane Harvey damage in August 2017. (Some were still closed, as were state and local parks.) We were there for two weeks to help with recovery. RVers are often welcome to help with recovery efforts because they bring their own housing and so do not compete for hotel and motel rooms with local residents. But, even for these RVs, the local facilities must be ready.

Maybe think about going and lending a hand. If not a campground, a local resident may be willing to put you up in their driveway or yard. Not to vacation but to help out. A local relief agency may be able to put you in touch.

Look... there is no question those folks in the hurricane zone need help and are having a tough time of it but that doesn't mean we need to ridicule someone who asks for information about the area on this forum.

Wise words from my father... "Unless you've made no mistakes in your life... be careful of the stones that you throw."
I didn't read it that way either, especially since we have the same concerns. We have a Jan tour starting in St Augustine on Jan 1 and headed to St Andrews State Park (which is currently closed and not taking reservations).

It certainly looks like Tyndall AFB took a serious pounding. We were in St Andrews in March of this year and watching the Raptors was a lot of fun.

We are looking at changing our plans and going to New Mexico/Arizona instead of trying to get into the Panhandle area. (Although Gulf Shores is damn pretty as well).

Thanks to the links to the imagery and update pages. We will be watching this with concern and hope the area residents recover quickly and fully.

We heard that the sand spit that connects the camp ground in St. Joseph peninsula to the main land was cut by the water and is now an island.

I'm asking if anyone has any more information about that park particularly and maybe even current aerial views?
Can you post a link if you have more info?

We've also got reservations at Top Sail Hill and it's also closed but I'm hoping that one will re-open by January.. fingers crossed.

Again any info or links you can provide is greatly appreciated!
You can forget T. H. Stone on St Joe penisula. They will be closed for quite some time. St Andrews in Panama City is the same. You will have to contact TopSail directly to see if they will be open for public camping. A lot of campgrounds in the area are being used for support personnel.

I just got home from working disaster relief for the panhandle. I have no info on the parks in the effected areas, but the city's and communities are actually on the fast road to recovery. True the trees will take years to grow back, but the rest of the infrastructure is making leaps and bounds. Debris is being cleaned up, most roads are clear now. As of 10-27-18 we restored water to Mexico beach at a flow of 200gpm and a sustained pressure of 60psi. From Lynn Haven to Mexico Beach took a beating, but they have made an amazing recovery so far. Most of the people I spoke with want normalcy returned. Businesses are reopening and citizens are going about their altered but normal lives in most areas with the exception of Mexico Beach. If you can make a trip to the panhandle and spend some money there you would be helping them out in more ways than one. Just be prepared for a treeless view.

Just got a call from Reserve America. Our April 2019 reservation at St. Joe's SP is cancelled. Full refund.

No big surprise.
