So if the fuel costs more offsetting and mileage gains, everything wears out the same as a gasser, are you really getting enough torque that gearing can't equalize to justify twice the price?
The Duramax just idles down the road with less wear and tear. Besides mine was only $6,000 more than the equal gasser and will have a better resale when I trade it.

Just checked the odometer and I have 82,389 miles on my '01 7.3L. I would most assuredly enjoy all the new gizmos and gadgets of a new truck, but I just can't justify the big $$$ expense when the one I have never seems to let me down.

The gizmos and gadgets, you can get mostly on the aftermarket.... you can even put a later model front end on it if you want.... the 7.3 engine it'self is what you want as it is grandfathered in and is not ruined by all of the EPA mandated 'laws'..... no need for a 'cat'... no need for a muffler.... Tune it or Chip it and let it scream and blow that smoke....

'98 Dodge, 3500, dually with 202,000 miles.
Just change the oil, fuel filter and get clean fuel and add a fuel conditioner.
Good for a half a million miles.
Dodge made it, Cummins shakes it.

I've got an '04 Cummins 5.9 with 202,000 on it. I've run Amsoil in it since around 30,000 and change oil every 20,000.
I average 23 mpg @65 mph empty and have a new 12,000 lb Wildcat and I've been getting 12-13 pulling on flat land.
I'm happy.
