DC 12v question

So I know that when I had my MaxxAir fans installed the dealer just tapped into a nearby light in the ceiling. With that said, my question now is, I'm looking to tap into the nearby 12v cigarette plug to wire in a 12v TV, and am wondering if I do that, will I still be able to plug something into that cigarette lighter plug (like a phone charger) to charge, or will the draw be too much and potentially melt wiring?
How do I guage when tapping into the 12v DC wiring how much is safe and when to back off?

Thanks,

You will not melt the wiring., that's what fuses are for. Check the value of the fuse for the Cig lighter circuit probably 10-15 amps. Cell phone charger draws about 1 amp, but there may be other things as well on that circuit, Check wiring schematic or pull fuse and see what does not work. A small 12V TV should be fine.

Might not even have to use a 12v TV. I bought a 24" led TV and a seperate Blu Rey player and combined they pull 65 watts. I installed a 400 watt inverter to provide power even though probably won't go over 100 by tapping in to the 12v power supply in entertainment center. Has own on switch so can turn off and not have parsidic draw. All on a 15 amp circuit.
