Dealer Extended Warranty
Hi!
I will be picking up my new Rockwood 8329SS Signature Ultra Lite Travel Trailer next week. I have been reading input from fellow RV'rs here and am planning on calling Forest River to inquire about the 2nd year warranty which I was not advised about from the Dealer. The 7 year warranty from the Dealer would kick in after the first year. On the plus side, if you puchase the 7 year warranty from the dealer it includes from day one of your Forest River Warranty on site service so that you would not have to take it to a Dealer. There is a $50 - $100 deductible involved for each occasion. The cost of the 7 year extended warranty is $2,400 including tax. Looking for feedback on whether or not people would purchase this.
Thanks!

Read what it covers very carefully. $2400 could easily cover a lot of incidental stuff over the years and you could save the rest for yourself.

And your on site service really isnt always applicable. You could be told it could be a week or two before they get to you...not bad if you are sitting on your driveway at home, but unrealistic if you are out at a campsite, they won't come "running" to you.
A lot of these fixes on these RV's you can do yourself, in fact almost need to learn to do yourself, since some of them are pretty simple fixes and you won't want to wait weeks for a dealer to come to you, or to even haul it in to them. Not to mention that for most of us the season is so short, that we won't sit around waiting for a repairman and having to perhaps cancel a camping trip. Most things will happen when you are using it, which means when you are away from home, which means you will want to simply fix it so you can get back to enjoying your camping trip and get safely back home when you are done.

Of course the dealer is advising against the FR 2nd year warranty. He doesn't get anything out of it. Are you going to keep your RV 7 years? No need paying for 7 years if you aren't planning to use it. Who will honor the warranty other than your dealer? Check around and take a look at a warranty before the end of your 2nd year.

My opinion...take your money and run !
Extended warranties are a money grab, I NEVER buy them on anything !
But that's just me...some like it !
Your money, your call.

We went with the 2 year forest river warranty. You can find the application here. How long have you had your Rockwood? Email forest river today, I'm betting they will allow you to purchase this now.

The second year from FR is best bet. I didn't know about it when we bought our 2012 SilverBack. I let dealer sell us one of those warranties and said covers everything. Just so you know it doesn't cover much ask me how I know. Our Silverback gave us nothing but grief and the china bomb tires was the last straw. Traded it in on Wildcat which is still in the shop for warranty work .
They push that $2400 deal real hard. I finally told GM that I would blow the deal if he didn't get finance person to back off and accept NO! I am still trying to get refund for warranty on Silverback since 3-06. What a pain in the rear

Generally, third-party warranties are full of loopholes for the provider and strict requirements for circumstances under which coverage will take effect. Read the contract very carefully. In fact, ask to take it home to review in detail and do some homework on the company providing the warranty. Most dealers contract the warranty out to someone in my experience with automotive, not sure about RV.
I have some experience with them, after I was given one for free as an incentive buying a used vehicle. It needed a new engine block only three months after I bought it, and while it was technically covered by the warranty under the rules they had set in the contract, they spent three weeks dragging their heels, sending inspectors, and making me fill out paperwork and speak with an army of call center consultants. Fortunately the car dealership informed me they were surprised to learn my car had an extended manufacturer's warranty that transferred with the VIN so I was able to stop dealing with the third party warranty company. But who knows how long I would have been without my vehicle if we'd continued.

Thanks for all of your input here and for elsewhere on this site. Looks like we will stick with the second year from FR and put the money aside to handle issues as they arise over the following 5 years. We very much appreciate your advise. Thanks again!

We don't pick the Trailer up until next week. FR said that the paperwork would be in the bundle that the Dealer gives us. So, won't know until we see it.

You will get your form back from FR with a stamp that says paid. We just received ours, the turn around time was 3 weeks from when we mailed it to them.

Correct, all we got back was the original form the dealer gave me that I filled out, there was a red "PAID" stamp at the top. There may have been a FR reps initials at the bottom but there was no other paperwork. Just that single sheet.
