Dealer refusal to do warranty work

We bought our trailer quite a distance from our home. Since we have a Forest River dealer within a few miles I called them to schedule some warranty work.
They told me they WILL NOT do any warranty work on trailers not purchased from them.
Have sent an email to Forest River about this and will do a follow up phone call also.
Have others ran into this?

Very common complaint in the RV industry. Perhaps Forest River can help you find a dealer willing to do the warranty work.

It is a common practice if you did not buy from that dealer....see example thread below.

Or they can pay my fuel to take it back to where I bought it.
What if I was four states away? LOL
I let this dealership know that it wasn't the warranty work they lost, they lost ALL my business in the future.

You might call Camping World in Columbia MO and see if they can do warranty work for Forest River.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I can take it back to the dealer at the lake, but it is the principle of it with me now.
If they sell the Forest River brand, they should honor ANY Forest River product that comes on their lot for warranty work.
Cost of doing business for that brand, IMHO.

I had the same issue with locating a local FR Dealer. I wanted to cut down on my 4 hour round trip from the dealer i purchased from. Recently i noticed on the back of my Salem brochure next to the part about their 20,000 square foot state of the art quality control facility (which I can assure my Salem did not visit) the following...Forest River Inc. Dealers are independently owned so priority service and scheduling is at their discretion and is often provided to customers who purchase units at their dealership.

Luckily one of my local dealer did not want to turn down warranty service and has made several repairs over the last year.

As long as WE buy trailers and the manufacturers make MONEY they couldn't care less if their dealers refuse to honor their warranty. OR HOW WE ARE TREATED.

Actually I do realize this.
That is why I sent a note to the owner of this local dealer to let them know that it wasn't the warranty work they lost, it is the years of service work when it is out of warranty they lost.
And any possible sale in the future when we upgrade.

What we really need is more multi brand authorized service only repair centers. They don't sell anything and only look for repair and warranty work. Then the dealers can kiss our &@! And then they'll change their tune.

I live on Long Island and the closest dealer is in Mass. 350 mile round trip plus $300.00 ferry ride. I'll fix my unit myself.

WOW, that is a long trek.
I could fix this stuff myself, but I bought a brand new one, so I didn't have to do it myself. LOL

many new RV owners expect the RV industry to work like the Auto industry, which is a big mistake.

the only things the two have in common, is that they have dealerships that sell things on wheels.

other than that, they couldn't be more different. RV dealers have no obligation to do warranty work on any units they didn't sell.
and the manufacturers can't force them to, because the RV dealer can simply drop that brand/manufacturer if they want to.

Sometimes it's faster and better to fix it yourself.

Sometimes it is.
But the fix it yourself idea is one of the reasons that the manufacturers and dealers try to treat us this way.
I am a master carpenter, pretty good electrician and can do plumbing. But if I wanted to do it myself, I would have bought a used one.
Not trying to be confrontational, but until we owners stand up to Forest River and FORCE them to FORCE their dealers to honor their warranty, the situation will not change.

It is not just Forest River, it is industry wide. If Forest River tried to force the issue a dealer they can simply drop them and go with RV's from Thor Industries, or Jayco, or etc.

And just how do you propose doing that?

By doing just what I am doing now with this post and contacting dealership owner.
If you don't make a stand sometimes, nothing ever changes.
