Dealer selling us exterior protective coating.
I've been pitched to buy the dealer applied protective coatings to our new to pick up TT. He said they'd put protective coating on the outside that would last 5 years and keep us from having to wax the exterior at all during this time. My question is to all you owners for this noob, should I have any of this done? I plan on passing on the interior spray, awning spray and undercoating, but the question of exterior. We will store outside but with a full RV cover. Thanks for any advice you can give. Is this really needed or is it just a dealer ploy to line their pockets? I believe we'll have to wax anyway. This will be on our new 28' TT that we are to pick up this next week. Upgrading from a tent trailer.

If it is anything like the coatings they offer for the cars I'd pass... They claimed to never need waxing for years... By the end of the first year the car was dull and needed waxing. Then the next issue, wife hit a deer and now the coating was gone due to repairs. Who can put it on and guess what insurance would not pay for it... I'd pass. We did do the scotch guard though since we have a 2 year old!

I'd pass on the exterior coating and you can buy a lot of Scotch guard spray cans and do the interior yourself for what they will charge you. ( thats all they use anyways !!!)

I paid for the Zilon (sp) on mine more for the interior guarantee. I have kids and now I'm covered for 5 years against any stains inside. Read the fine print on the exterior spray. If I remember it didn't cover the side walls and I know it didn't cover the roof. Basically it covers the front and rear cap which is fiberglass on mine and the easiest piece to keep clean and shiny.

One of the first things I did to our new camper was to put on a good quality paste wax. I did the front and rear sections and was surprised by how easily the hazed wax came off (that first coat can be somewhat of a bear to remove). Then it started raining. The next day I noticed the front and rear beaded very nicely. But so did the sides. I think the dealership may have waxed the unit as part of the prep. They did try to sell me special exterior and interior treatments which I declined

The dealer tried to sell me the same thing when we picked up our new trailer last week. I declined. I just finished waxing mine with Mequiars Paint Protect. I think if you want to keep it looking good, wax will be required.

I fell for it too, and now feel like I was really ripped off..it's a joke... Most expensive water and whatever else is in it that I have ever bought...If you really want to protect it, you will need to get out the wax and simply do it.

Save your money. Also by waxing yourself you get to check seals gaskets etc and head off possible problems.

Hogwash....!! Unless he tapes off all the misc. windows, etc., and sprays on clear coat (and that's questionable) I wouldn't touch it with a 10" pole...

I made that mistake on my 1st tt and hated it. after about 4 years the finish started to dull and the dealer then said that you have to re applied every 5 years. It makes it very difficult to wax afterwards because you have to rub out the finish they apply.

I have a friend who used to work at a new car dealership. The employees privately called the "paint protection" they would upsell to customers "poly-razzmatazz". They also called it "wax". It was a big moneymaker along with the $150 nitrogen fill for the tires...

We had this offered to us also. We passed on it. I think its just another way to or for, as someone else here said the dealers to line their pockets. Similar to those overpriced extended warranty contracts. I really felt it was a farce. Go with the good wash and waxes. I think you will further ahead for alot less money.
