Dealer tips his hand, is dead to me now.

I had an interesting chat with one of my dealers today.

I was wanting to trade my 4 month old Surveyor for a Vantage they had on sale.

This Surveyor listed at $24k, I added $1k in additional equipment. Ended up paying $18k with my options, tax, tag, etc.

He offered me $9500 on trade. Ouch! The Vantage they had marked down from $28k to $17.9k.

But here's the interesting part - he told me they can order them new for $10k!

That's a wee bit of markup, dontcha think? Reinforces my theory that dealer cost is 50% or less, and therefore manufacturer cost is half of that, or 25% of MSRP.

Guess I'm keepin' my Surveyor until at least spring till I can sell it myself.

Sounds like you are doing business in Canada gives you the feeling you could be the last customer so they need to maximize there profit.

Something doesn't sound right. Discounts of 30 to 35% off the MSRP is quite normal, but he's offering you a deal at 64% of list!!!

You should buy 2!

I would if he would give me fair value for my trade.

But these discounts are typical for units that have been on his lot for a couple months. If you are a cash buyer, you can make out ok with them.

Just buy a couple Wincrasher. You have room in your garage for a couple of more. You'll soon have binders of campers.
