dehummer

One of the posts I saw awhile back mentioned using a dehumidifier to keep the trailer dry inside when not in use. When I thought about that I wondered where to run the drain hose out to. The thought I came up with was when I do it to put the dehummer in the shower, leave the grey water valve open and run a hose cap and hose out to the ground. Then wrap the end of the hose with some stainless steel wool to prevent infestation. Any thoughts or better ideas how to run the drain hose would be appreciated.

Why not just form a trap with your hose instead of using the steel wool?

Your profile doesn't state where you live, but wouldn't just keeping your vents open prevent the humidity buildup?

I have a raised shower so I ran a 1/2" line through the corner of the platform then opened the access panel and ran it down through the existing hole in the floor for the shower drain and finally out a 1/2" hole drilled in the Coroplast underbelly. I did it this way as most of the dehumidifiers today are made in China and everyone I have have had so far ( both at home and in RV) have used low grade metals in the coils that rust. I initially had in the shower drain, but the rust was staining the shower floor and drain. Mine has run this way for 3 years.

Run mine on the kitchen counter and drain into the sink. Never measured the flow but I would think it couldn't be more than a gallon a day. It might work to empty your grey tank every couple of weeks.

Thank you all. I live in Oregon and moisture could be a problem all winter. Good tips and hopefully I can use some of those to protect my investment.

Being in Oregon and if you are going to use the dehumidifier in the winter, the trap in the hose I suggested wouldn’t be a good idea.

Why do you now think that wouldn't be a good idea

Because the water that is captured in the trap will freeze and the hose will no longer drain. Then, the bin inside of the dehumidifier will fill and (hopefully) turn off the dehumidifier, but it will likely freeze, also, then split the bin. When it warms-up, the bin will empty, and if the dehumidifier turns itself back on because it “thinks” there is no water in the bin, the water will spill out of the splits in the bin and dump onto the floor or wherever you have placed the dehumidifier.
