Mall of America is going to allow us to run the generator to power the AC for our pooches while were inside.

2 dogs were left in a popup with the AC on a few sites down from use and tore out the end of the canvas and window screen to get out. owners got a text from the campground to return. I think it was other campers that rounded up the dogs.
The sun in desert areas is VERY hot.
altitude is no help.

I wouldn't leave a dog alone, too many bad things can happen (i.e. A/C unit shuts down).
We just returned from a 10 day trip to Utah with overnight stay in Mesquite, NV. Outside was 115 and with one A/C best it could do was drop inside temp to 98, it was intolerable. We went to local casino and I asked security if we could come inside to cool off. Said okay so long as the dog didn't bother anyone or go on the carpet. Turned out all the dog lovers stopped to chat and enjoy the dog, actually nobody had a problem with that.
Next time, if I have a stop over in a hot spot such as Mesquite I will just park the camper for the night and get a room with real A/C.

We have a MH, so we use the onboard generator to run the AC. With a trailer, you could carry a portable generator in your truck and use that to run the AC. Just be sure to lock the generator with a strong chain or cable to minimize the chance of it growing legs!

I'm actually considering installing a secondary shore power inlet on the front of my TT wired into the main breaker panel courtesy of a transfer switch so I can power the AC while driving with the generator in my truck bed.

If your trailer power cord is long enough you could plug it into the generator. I don't see the need for an additional cord.

Infared temp gun. Check the ground temp before going out without paw protection. A quick stop where it seems cool in the shade can be painful.

Start the gen and turn on the air. We take our dogs to the desert all the time during the day they are out with us but when we leave for a ride we just let the gen run and air on full blast.

when temps are not too hot we use battery powered fans, one or two in front and one in back (our dogs ride in wire crates). We also use a ventlock (expensive but well worth it) that will hold the door open but it can still be locked. This, coupled with eating in places where we can see the van, setting a timer on our watch so that we know how long we've been away from the van, and making sure to leave plenty of fresh water (we clip the bucket to the wire crate to that it can't be spilled) will allow you to do many things. We travel with show dogs and if its too hot then we might go one at a time to see things while one of us stays with the dogs. Its sometimes more effort to take the dogs but to us they're family and we wouldn't have it any other way. Cincia
