Did You Winterize Your Black Tank Flush?

I'm just wondering how many people never thought of doing this. After all, the line from the outside of the RV to the vacuum breaker inside is full of water. Beyond the vacuum breaker and into the black tank should have no water present in the line as the vacuum breaker allows that to drain.

I never thought about it until just now, so I am taking a 5 hour round trip this weekend to do it. I Hope I'm not too late.

Ours has No water located between the RV side wall and up to the Anti siphon/check valve! My main concern is the spray Nozzle freezing,I feed RV anti-freeze threw the BTR from the O/S shower, when Winterizing! Youroo!!

How does yours have no water from the connection to the vacuum breaker? My inlet has a check valve at the connection as well as at the vacuum breaker. But, if you put antifreeze in there, you have nothing to worry about anyways.

This is a typical rv install of the black tank flush system. It's a self contained system and only one check valve. After flush water on tank side will drain into tank (tank is vented) and water on input side will drain back out input port (not contaminated water). I guess some installs do also have a check valve at input port but don't understand why.

I never gave it a 2nd thought when winterizing but bubbles post above helps ease my mind.
I'm curious, how would one get antifreeze in there if you did want to winterize it?

I would be more concerned with a "closed" system than an " open" system. With trapped water in a "closed" system the water has nowhere to expand to... and something will crack, hence the use of RV antifreeze. With blackwater flushes, check valves and spray bars, this is an open system with the effects of gravity and no resistance to water just laying in the tube. I don't believe the amount of expansion of a drop of water here will matter.. lots of air space.

I used to just blow the lines with air on my PUP that had a shower /toilet combo and after 13 years never an issue.

I pump anti freeze out my outside shower then attach that hose to my black tank flush and pump the anti freeze though the black tank flush.

Iuse a pressurised canister to force AF thru the flush line, also thru the city water connection, and the fresh water tank fill line, then use the suction line and 12v pump to do the rest of the system
