Diesel fuel availability in Southern Rural US
I am needing to upgrade to a larger 250/350 style truck, but there is a lot of discussion in Canada about a lack of diesel fuel in the rural areas of southern US, once you get off the interstate or major highways. Was this only a problem in the past, or is it still a problem now. With a 14k 5ver my non-diesel options are limited

Rural Southern US? That's me.
Farmers live here.
Diesel is everywhere. I have one, live here, and have zero problems. None.

Never had a problem when I drive off the interstate onto the state/local roads in the south when I used to pull with my diesel.
However I always had (2) 5 gallon of diesel in those yellow containers to make sure I could go another 50-100 miles if needed. They could also be used to transfer from the pump to the truck if i could't easily fit at the station as well... figured 20 minutes of refilling them was better than being stuck and waiting on someone.

Thanks. The people were concerned to such an extent that they were limiting their choices to gas only motor homes. Sometime you have to go to the source to find out the real storey. Thanks again

Diesel everywhere
I'm in Florida and diesel is everywhere. I live 15 miles from the interstate &
there is diesel at just about every gas station. And it is cheaper off the interstate by 20-45 cents per gallon. The price of gasoline has been falling for about two weeks now. I'm in Jacksonville, FL and I see gas for $1.94 per gal with diesel slowly falling to $2.15 per us Gal. There are places where diesel is cheaper than gas.

In my area of S/E TN if you find a gas station that gas station generally has diesel. There maybe a few smaller stations, few and far between, that may not have it. So if one doesn't the next one will.

As B&J said, Farmers live and grow here, so diesel is easy to find.
Pick the stations with the semi's parked around them and you'll be sure to get fresh fuel. If the semi's fuel there, I don't have a problem with it.

You will not have any problem finding diesel fuel in the US, even the south.

No problem. I always fill at 1/2 tank. Diesel is plentiful.

There are several websites that give gas and diesel prices at most stations in most cities. Gasbuddy.com has a regular website and a website for smartphones.
I often check it when I need gas. Sometimes I pick a station and look at it on Google Earth to be sure I can get in and out of it, since I am towing a car with a Class C.

Download an app called Allstays Truck and Travel. It shows which stations have truck lanes, etc. which is great when pulling a trailer. You can also look at it and see the overhead satellite view, to plan how to approach the station and how to get back out. I use it to plan all of my trips.

We always try to stay off the interstate. We take the Golden Isles Parkway to the GA coast to Jekyll Island to the RV campground there. Fueling stations for gas or diesel are few but the ones we pass are set up for logging trucks so they have diesel and big areas to navigate an RV. A few also have off-road diesel for tractors etc. so you have to be sure of which pump you fuel at. We are finding non-uniformity in the color of the pump handles. When in doubt, just ask. In Georgia, there are alot of logging trucks on the rural out-of-the-way roads so diesel is a must. No worries!

Live in Florida, routinely travel through Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Oklahoma and North and South Carolina. Only time I've ever had an issue was on Hwy 59 up the middle of Louisiana. There were fuel stops there, it was just the banjo music that made me hesitant to stop.

Aw shucks, you should have went ahead and stopped anyway. Besides banjos, we play harmonicas, cajun fiddles, accordions, electric guitar, bass, and drums. I guess Zydeco music is not your thing.
Diesel is not that hard to find in Louisiana (I drive one myself). You need to remember that the rural south is farm country, and many farmers have diesel trucks. Just make sure when you are at some places, you are not at the off-road diesel pump (it's non taxed and only for tractors and other off road diesel equipment). Farm diesel like this has a red dye in it.
BTW conceptumator, I think you meant to say Hwy 49.... as there is no 59 up the middle of LA.
