diesel fuel in containers

Does anyone carry extra diesal fuel in containers inside storage bins under an rv. It seems it would increase range between fillups or when running low...thoughts???

We carry five gallons of diesel in the bed of the truck.

Used once when we parked on fumes. Tank said we had 3 miles remaining. Likely had a gallon.

Used a second time because of a detour. Would have been short two gallons. Added in a rest stop.

That is in nine weeks of camping.

Neither was an emergency just saved us time. Stops never go quick.

Makes me feel good knowing it is there.

We can drive about 300 miles on a tank.

hand pouring cans of fuel sounds like allot of work and mess. Maybe an extra for emergency would be nice in the bad lands but would never worry about it in most places.

I carry two five gallon plastic cans for just in case, I have a 100 gallon auxiliary tank

Not messy.

Our tank was a safety pour spout. Leaked about a pint ever time I used it.

Bought the Ace Hardware illeagle old fashioned pour spout. No spills.

Yes it is a little trouble. Easy for two.

I've thought about carrying a 5 gallon can in the bed of the truck but hate those safety spouts. I haven't seen a decent fuel can since the 2007 EPA rule went into effect.

At many places a clear plastic hose with a marble captured in the copper end fitting can be found. $5.00 or so.

Simply putting he copper end in a tank and moving it up and down will pump fuel (or any liquid) to flow where it can siphon 5 gal in a few min.

No spills but a PIA to hold fuel can above tank fill.

On long trips we carry an extra five gallons in the bed of the truck. Never had to use it but is a relief that it's there. A few years back coming back north, we ran through an area that had just been hit with bad storms. Could not find a fuel stop that had any electricity. By the time we did find one out of the area we were on fumes. Since that trip the extra diesel is carried in the bed of the truck.

I carry a 5 gal can in the truck bed. I bought my diesel in 2008, around the time the new fuel rules went into effect, but a lot of stations didn't have the new fuel yet. As it turned out we managed to find the correct fuel so didn't need it. I still carry the can, especially when traveling in the mountain west.

We carry two 5 gallons cans in the bed of the truck. I bought the Amazon diesel cans and replacement spouts/vents and they work great. I carry a small stool in the bed of the truck, and just stand on that to add fuel with a funnel from the cans to the truck fuel tank; never spilled a drop. I like the peace of mind in having the spare fuel on hand.

Our Chevrolet 2500HD truck has a factory installed 36 gallon fuel tank and I added a 60 gal. auxiliary bed mounted fuel tank. Getting around 12 miles to the gal. towing our 5th wheel. Using just 90 of the 96 gals of fuel, I can drive over a thousand miles between fill ups. If I cannot find diesel in a thousand miles of travel, I will sell truck and keep my dumb ass at home.

Those are the ticket! Best thing about them is the vent. No more chug-a-lug-lug and the constant container expansion and contraction while fueling. Have them on all my fuel cans. On one can I had to use the old neck cap as the threads were different, but the new spout sealed right up.

EZ-POUR & TRUEPOWER are the best. Avoid the cheap knock-offs.
