Hello everyone I have a quick question. We are considering buying a satellite for our camper. we already have Dish Network at home. If we buy a portable dish for the camper can we take out receiver from home and use it while we are camping? Thanks in advance for your help!

think its $350 for just the dish if you already have a receiver
thats for the tailgater from dish

other dishes for more or less will also work

That's all we do. Take a receiver from the house. I'm planning to add an automatic dish to the top next year. Tired of messing with setting the dish up.

Thanks for the replies! One more quick question. Which satellite do you recommend? I was thinking of getting a tailgater type one so if we were to trade campers it could go with us.

I went with the Dish Tailgater. It has as much HD as your going to get with an inexpensive dish and can be moved easily. I was surprised how light it was.

I did get the 211K instead of 211Z receiver. I wanted to be able to send sat through the RV on the built in cable on channel 3. The K does the the Z is smaller but doesnt have the cable output.

I have the Winegard Pathway X2 and 211z receiver. It works if there are no trees towards the south!! I put it on a tripod adapter I built.

I think a little clarification is in order.
If you get a Tailgater, it is my understanding that you can only use a 211 receiver with it.
If you only have one receiver at home, I doubt you have a 211?

Worst case is you have to also buy a 211 receiver for $99 and $5-7 a month to have it activated.

One also should realize that using the coax (cable) output from the 211 receiver will only provide SD viewing. Either the HDMI or digital outputs from the 211 must be used for HD viewing. We too just use the coax out from the 211 and SD is fine for us. Our coach does not have HDMI cables prerun and would be a bear to install. Wireless HDMI is another approach but not for us.

HOw much is that Pay as you go per month with premium channels and movies?
I don't know, but figured one month of good selection of programming would allow for a lot of $5 additional receiver charges.

I pay $86.XX for the 120+ package PLUS the Fox Regional Sports added. $60 for 120+, $10 more for HD, and $11.00 for Fox RS. Taxes are $5.26.

I bought the receiver when I bought the Pathway dish.

I don't have Dish at home.........I have Direct. BUT, if you have DISH at home, I believe you have to add a leased receiver for the camper, and it is what costs the $5.00 more per month.

The pay-as-you-go doesnt cost anything when not in use (turn on a month at a time) but you do pay full price for your package. Since we have cable at the house i only use the payg option part of the year. And went with the 211k to have all options on outputs. Receivers are fairly cheap so replacing one is no biggie. I liked the self contained dish with option to set away in a clearing or on top of the rv.

There is an awsome flat profile dish but the cost is crazy...like $3400 just for it...i dont mind the cube for $3100 less...
