btw, thanks for posting this. I ordered it a couple of weeks ago and am super pleased with it in our bathroom. I tried searching once before and couldn't find anything. This is perfect.

I didn't even have to take the whole housing down. Just the inner part- it snapped right into the existing one!

Do the vanes have any resistance to them.... stay open when not in use? My high up ones don't, and although one could add a 'O' ring to a vane 'shaft', I'd rather have a couple that stay .......swivel ok.

They sort of click into place for closed and has stayed closed (even during travel). The few times that we've opened it, it stays wherever we put it.

Is that what you mean?

Sort of..... the movable vanes in mine, will stay open with a/c on, but close on their own when not in use, and the further downstream you go the worse it get's......bedroom won't stay open even with airflow

Sounds like they may defective. Never seen any that depend on air flow to keep open. Later RJD

We use adjustable floor registers in the kitchen and lr to force more air to the bedroom and bathroom and it works just fine. I did block off the floor joists and made a plenum and just cut a hole for the register in the bathroom.

Agreed, this is nothing like bob described. Wherever I open it- it stays.

Hmmmm ...had an RV tech tell me that these furnaces need 4-5 open registers or it can cause problems with your furnace....

I guess it depends on the furnace. My 30,000 btu Suburban furnace has a sail switch which senses the air flow. If it does not sense enough air flow the switch will not close and it will not allow the igniter to fire so the burner will not light. They tell you in the manual not to restrict any of the registers for this reason.

I am fortunate that FR designed my 5er properly and the few times I have ran the furnace I haven't noticed any problems. If the bedroom /bathroom did get too hot I would close off half of that register and install a 2 inch duct into my uninsulated storage area. Most of my duct work runs thru the insulated and sealed underbelly.
