The last trailer we had before the present one did not have an oven. We thought we would like it in the next unit so when we traded up, we got an oven. It's a pain in the butt to light because you have to get down on your knees to light it. Pushing 70 years old it isn't as easy as it was at 40. We tried to light it once and never tried it again. I'll do the stove top or the grill.

Am wanting to learn how to do convection just not got around to it ! A lot of the time I bring food that already prepared at home so just have to warm it up .

No stone here

It seems from what I read on TT forums that most people would prefer the extra cabinet space instead of the oven. What's your opinion?

We use ours for bread storage we do have a convection oven if we need to bake anything. We have used the oven 2 times in 4 yrs

Used it 1 time in four years, used it to bake a birthday cake. As others do, it is now used for storage.

Have a convection in new MH but old Glendale C had propane oven and we used it a lot, to cook chicken strips for the kids and anything else that needed baking.

Amen! For someone that just does a couple trips a year for a handful of days at a time, you could probably do without and enjoy more cabinet space, but as a full timer.. when you want an oven.. you REALLY want an oven!

It's not always sunshine and rainbows outside and some baked oysters, crispy pizza, slow roasted ribs, or some hot biscuits can really hit the spot.

Unglazed tiles work as well.

Oven

Yes we use our oven occasionally. It's easy to light with the long BBQ lighters when you get the hang of it (as long as the air is purged from the line). Unlike most we don't use the microwave as we believe that it changes the molecular structure of food.

Our MH has a convection microwave which we have used to bake many things. It works quite well. As a lark I bought a portable propane oven that had a two burner stove on top at CW and use it for overflow baking and those times I do not want to 'heat' the camper and it works well..

Not sure I understand this comment. My gas oven at home has electronic ignition, basically a click lighter; why haven't I blown up?

I've often wondered how that portable oven /stovetop would actually work. Is yours the Coleman (although I've seen an identical one, different brand name as well?) Just out of interest have you actually baked or cooked in it, or just warmed things up. Do you use the 1 lb portable canisters with it?
Considering it as an option to have an outside cooktop, and the oven, but also to use on my outside on my sailboat so I don't have to have propane down below (since propane is heavier than air it won't flush out naturally if any is unburnt, or it leaks etc.

[QUOTE=Ford Idaho;805994]The stones are subject to breakage so wrap it in a towel or some kind of padding before moving down the road.

Do most of you wrap your stones while traveling down the road to prevent breakage?

We use our oven a lot to make all sorts of things. Even made pizza a couple of times and even without a stone it worked great. We did rotate it more than normal which I'm sure helped. I will say that when the season starts we have been averaging a 2 or 3 day weekend every other one. Different strokes I guess.

Hard to believe there are 76 posts on whether the oven is used for storage or to bake.

we're full-timers & i use it nearly every day, do a lot of baking . . . don't find it particularly hard to light & don't mind getting on my knees to light it . . . as noted in previous posts, a pizza stone is key . . .
