Went from Popup to a 28'. Driving home...NO TOW MIRRORS !!! wondering how the hell am I going to do this. Got to house, pulled past driveway, stuck it in reverse, took a DEEP breath and rolled that sucker right where I wanted it on the first try. Couldn't believe how easy it was compared to the Popup. Then went to 38' and only thing I worried about was finding how far past the driveway I needed to go before backing up. Got a retaining wall on the driver side I have to watch for. Don't want to be rolling 38' of camper off the wall and onto the neighbors yard.

Learned to back up trailers at 8 or 9 years old on the farm... really don't remember ever not knowing how to do it. Just as natural as driving forward.

I used to drive the family trailer around Michigan and Northern Indiana when I was eight years old.

I'm not worried or nervous about backing up anything...

I backed my previous TT up almost 3/4 of a mile on a dirt road in the mountains of Colorado on it's maiden voyage when my GPS device took me down the path to nowhere at 11 Mile State Park.

Only using my mirrors!

That road was on the other side of the lake in this photo:

My "hand at the bottom of the steering wheel" method is how I do it.

This 20 second video is really 55 minutes of timelapse photos. Still makes me laugh and sad at how hard it was to get the rig parked at the storage lot that first time!

It's the perfect setup- angled spot, driver's side backing, plenty of room to the front.

But we all were new once.

So now we know the REAL reason you went full-timing.

Just so you wouldn’t have to deal with the storage lot dimensions anymore.

You got me!

Though, I'll say that I've stayed in some spots that I wish I had that much maneuvering room!

Plenty of backing tow behinds. Got my 5’r, and still feel like the village idiot sometimes. First back in was my yard. Big driveway with a turn at the house. Plenty of space. First time with my brand new trailer. Not a fond memory. My 5’r backs so differently than a tow behind, but I think I am FINALLY getting the hang of it.....

Funny thing is my old man who drove everything from a drag line to a front loader to farm tractor to bulldozer to dump truck and just about in between in the Navy could not back up to save his life when he got older. He hauled many a 5'ver 1200 miles to stay the summer with us but I often had to back it in.

Every time I see the part of Desi backing the TT into the driveway, I always think of every CG we've ever been in and how some people do gather and try to give instructions to you...ALL AT THE SAME TIME !

First time I ever backed a "trailer" up it was one like this.

Was also when I learned you don't drive too fast across the field when towing a manure spreader. They tend to fling the dung forward and cover whoever's driving the tractor But hey, I was only 10 and had a lot of life lessons to learn. Got that one out of the way real quick.

LOL, mine was an Allis Chalmers 190 (One-Ninety)... doing the same thing! I also really remember backing the feed grinder/mixer up to the barn to add corn and minerals and whatever else was in the recipe at the time. I think that is where I really learned to back a trailer... I did that a lot (since it was supervised) before I ever got turned loose to go to the field alone.

Ohhhhhh my...can't tell you how many times we would "readjust" the lever that operated the speed of the poo flyer. Then let the new hire take a "break" from mucking stalls take a spin on the tractor.
