If my best friend showed up at my house after midnight with a body in his trunk, I'd help him bury it.......but I would never let him borrow or rent my camper.

Ditto; siblings asked and I said they could come with us on a trip most any time; but no way on a loaner...

Dont do it.

If you want to rent Trailers buy inexpensive ones and start a business. You also have to insure this correctly. Insurance for a rental is different from the insurance you have now.

Only took one experience to decide I'd never rent out any RV I owned.

At the time I was renting a Class A for a large family trip back east. While at the rental company I saw another Class A being returned. The entire RH side had been "guard-railed" from front bumper to rear. Guy said he wasn't all that familiar with how large vehicles like that drove and the first construction zone he hit, he hit the guardrail.

OK, so there's the damage deposit and insurance to cover it. Unfortunately the memory of the damage will linger as long as you own it and lastly, no income while it's being repaired.

Even if it's not used as a party vehicle, people who do not own RV's don't realize that they aren't as sturdy as their houses. Cabinet doors can't be opened by kids and then used to climb up on counters, etc. Depending on the toilet plumbing design, one can't use half a roll of TP and expect to flush it all down to a tank a few feet down the line. Not everyone will tell you that they had the toilet overflow once or twice while they had it out. You'll just find out several months later when the mold and stink take over.

I think the only way RV's should be rented if to just sell it to the party and have a buy-back agreement for the rental amount less any depreciation due to neglect. If they bring back a trashed unit, it's now THEIR trashed unit.

BTW, I never failed to get back a rental deposit on any MH rental. I even washed them at home before returning and my wife made sure the inside sparkled and smelled good. It's the way I was taught.

Sad to say, but I would not let my daughter & son-in-law borrow our coach. I feel it would be kept very clean, but the liability would be to much for me to consider it.

RV Rental can be done but only one way

We have a friend here in Metro Atlanta who used to rent his RV out to movie companies that were filming in the Atlanta area. It was a nice deal for him because he also rented himself out as the driver. If you did not want the driver you did not get the RV. He did this for about 7 or eight years until his wife retired from teaching. Then he had a quad bypass and they decided to take life easy and spend 3/4 of the year full timing in his new RV which he bought for cash from the proceeds of renting his old RV.

It can be done but like my friend you can not give up control of the camper or the vehicle will be returned trashed.

I purchased a used RV to put on our lake property for friends and family to use...our 5er isn't communal property by any stretch of the imagination. My oldest son asked me last week if he could have the code to our new trailer to show his fiancé inside while we were out of town; not gonna happen. Maybe sound harsh, but no one, even your children, will take care of your unit. I agree with the others; buy a second trailer if you want to get into the business.

Absolutely not, it's hard enough to keep it maintained and clean with people that are conscientious(us), imagine people that have no reason other than a cleaning/security deposit to treat it as a rolling hotel to party in.

I would never rent my 5th wheel. I have on two occasions allowed my daughter and her child to stay in it while it was sitting at my house. But that is as far as I would go. I paid too much for our camper and work way too hard to keep it in good working order to allow someone to just treat it however they want to because they "Paid" the fee to use it. Just my opinion.

Happy Camping to everyone.

Not only don't rent it out but would think twice about renting one . most times From Monty's . RVbearrv ,Cruise America . they do not take care of the units and send them out as fast as they get them in knowing they have issues so now the renter is stuck trying to find repairs along the road and waste their vacation time dealing with a RV that's been abused and not taken care of . RV renting or rentals are not good from either end. Now would i loan my RV depends on who i have some friends i would and othewrs i wouldn't

FYI --- I work at a Box Truck Rental company, Height is a BIG ISSUE.
I am talking 26 footers ranging from 12 to 13 feet and under 26000 lbs.
RENTERS still IGNORE HEIGHTS, even though it is plastered inside and outside the truck.
People ignore signs regarding height such as bridges, gas stations, low hanging canopies, and so on.

So what makes you think an individual renting will be responsible enough to realize the height of an RV?
My answer to your question is NEVER RENT what you OWN. If you do, expect damage. As others stated, Rent for Business only.

Note: renting your RV can be considered a business venture and if your rental receipts exceed the limits for incidental business activities on your homeowners insurance policy it can void coverage for ANY homeowners claims. Check with your insurance agent before renting.
