Do you stand on your slides?

I have a 18' Sabre 30rlt with 3 slides. I need to condition the seals around each slide. The top seal is obviously the hardest to reach. Can I stand/sit on the slides so I can reach to get this job done? I'm 200lbs

I wouldn't. Not sure the slide roof would be strong enough to hold me.

I do. I'm 175 lbs. I get on all fours to distribute the weight more and it seems to work out ok.

If not, how do you condition that top seal without standing on the slide?

From the main roof. I have toppers on my 3 slides and I have yet to figure out how to do it. I guess the only way is to remove the toppers.

I just did it on mine. One slide is narrow enough I can reach across it from a step ladder. The other two I opted to just do from the roof. Sprayed on the 303, wiped it down and rubbed it in. Then pulled up the seal and sprayed the bottom side and wiped it in.

By the time I did the side seals on all three, the rag I was using was pretty saturated, so that helped some.

For a job like this, I would also think you could run your slides all the way in, then back out a foot so you can reach over the slide to get to them. Flip the seal out with your hand if you need to and treat them. I needed to inspect the roof anyway, so I just grabbed the bottle and rag on the way up.

When I conditioned mine I only opened them slide about a foot. I then used a ladder to easily reach the seals. When I eventually install toppers I’m not sure what will work. Perhaps a modified mop head on an extension pole.

I Do

I do it all of the time. The slide roofs on my Windjammer are definitely more rigid and stronger than my main roof.

As Gailforce mentioned,, soak a rag on an extension pole and run it across..

Plywood

If I were to stand on the slide roof, I would cut a piece of 1/4 plywood a slight bit smaller than the roof and lay it on the roof to distribute my weight evenly.

Only when absolutely necessary, i.e. seal maintenance.

I stand on the two big slides on my 5'ver all the time!

They can handle it...unless you weigh 400 pounds maybe.

I guess if you’re asking if the slide roof will support your weight, you don’t have slide toppers.

Why not service the slide seal from a ladder, but......only put the slide out about 6-10” to reach a seal.

I have stood on the outside edges of the top of the slide, but never toward the middle of the inside top (unsupported) of the slide. Don't like the way it feels.

Also, I have never seen the need to condition the slide seals with anything. I have had RVs all my life and my current one is seven years old. We live in the Southwest. No seal problems.

But I suppose it makes folks feel better and gives them something to do

If you choose to work from a ladder, you can use a pool noodle to fashion cushions to enable you to lean the ladder against the sidewall of the slides.

Just cut two sections about 12" to 15" long, then slice longitudinally. If it doesn't stick to the ladder rail as well as it should, use duct tape to hold it on.

The advantage of this over a stepladder is that you can setup on less than perfectly level ground, and the extension ladder will be far more stable.
As for doing it from the main roof, that's possible but awkward. Scrambling around on the main roof risks scuffing up the roof coating.

Personally, I would not get on the slide roof. I'm sure your RV roof is "walkable," but many main RV roofs are not, so I have little confidence that the slide roof would be walkable.

Prime Time that builds our Crusader Lite 5th wheel has a advertising video showing three grown men on top of a slide. I weigh 285 lbs. and have been on top of our slides without incident. If you want to distribute your weight, lay a piece of plywood up there before climbing onto it.

I just replaced a skylight on the slide of our 2007 Cherokee 38P. The roof construction (might not be the same as yours) appears to be 2x2 joists on 24" centers with 1/2" plywood decking and EPDM membrane. It supported me just fine. I did a lot of the work from a stepladder or reaching down from the main roof, but there were parts that simply couldn't be done that way. After completing the work, I would say that I'm comfortable (170 lbs.) walking or sitting on the slide roof.

Not on the skylights though. The originals are merely 1/16" polycarbonate sheet.

standing on my slides

I don't take a lawn chair and tea and sit there, but, I have stood on, walked on, crawled on and knelt on my slides, I have owned at least five different brands ver the years, never had an issue.
