I'm in the same situation. We have a Golden Retriever (Maggie) that loves to travel with us. In the cooler months, Maggie rides in the 5th wheel on her doggie bed in the middle of the RV. She some times lays by the front door on the rug, I can tell from the dog hair. With the roof vents open there is lots of air flow.
In the summer months, we are camping at a lake. My wife tows the boat with her Jeep Grand Cherokee and Maggie rides in the back of the Jeep.
We are about to make a beach trip that is about 4.5 hour drive and we will like to take Maggie with us. Since we are not taking the boat she will have to ride in the RV, and I don't want to put her in there with temps in the high 90s. I'm afraid we will get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and Maggie will bake in the RV with no fresh air flow.
So, that got me thinking about maybe putting an air cooler made from a 5 gallon bucket or ice chest (Google this, many ideas) to blow cool air on her, or put a 30amp plug on the front of the RV and run generators in the bed of my truck to power the AC.
I'm going to put a plug and run generators for Maggie while she rides in the RV. Maggie is ready to jump in the RV when we are packing, she loves to visit new places.
With the wifey snoring, the kids bickering in the back seat, I may have to trade places with Maggie and ride in the RV!
