Did you take temperature readings at the discharge and return to see what the difference was?
If you're sure it's bad then replacing it is pretty easy if you have some help. It basically sits on the roof with 4 bolts going through the roof from the inside. There's a foam gasket between the roof and the unit, and the bolts require proper torqueing to compress the gasket correctly. You'll have to unhook and reconnect a few wires for power and thermostat, but that's not a big issue.
