If you're the type to camp at 'pick your spot' type places, then the portable makes it easier to check the pedestal before backing in. We don't camp at those kind of places, so it doesn't matter to us. I had originally bought a portable for the TT knowing that we'd be upgrading down the line, and since it was my first rig, I was a little apprehensive about such a change to the wiring. Bought a hardwired for the new rig, sitting waiting for the rig to get back from our shakedown warranty work so I can install it.
