Dual Generators

Hello everyone we have returned from our 21 state tour of the country and had so much fun. We stayed in campgrounds with electrical hookups mostly. We have a 23 foot Travel Trailer and it has no generator which we would need for boondocking. My wife bought a Yamaha 2600 portable generator and it works fine for the microwave, lights and stuff like that but if we want to use the A/C the 2600 is too small so we heard you can use 2 generators (another matching 2600) and hook them up in parallel. The 2600 is a low profile which fits perfect under my pickup locking bed cover. Can't find a parallel cable kit for 2 2600's just don't know what to do. Should have bought a 5er but i love this little trailer and just want to make something work. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated Neil and Maureen I'm so ready to go again

If I'm reading Yamaha specs the 2600 is straight up generator. In order to run generators in parallel you need to be able to synchronize them - frequency, voltage and phase rotation MUST be matched to very tight tolerances. Inverter type generators can adjust the output to match.
The generated you have is a nice unit but attempting to hook it up in parallel to another non-inverter type will most likely blow up at least one of them.
Both units need to be inverters.

Unless you're mixing up the 2600 NON-inverter generator, with the 2400 INVERTER generator, there is no such thing as a parallel kit for a loud open frame generator, like the 2600.
As far as I know ONLY inverter generators can be paralleled.
Even Yamaha/Honda open frame generatos, like the 2600, are much louder than a comparable inverter generator.
The 2600 is at least 15 decibels louder than the 2400 inverter generator, which is a HUGE difference.
If you plan on camping in campgrounds with no electricity, PLEASE get an inverter generator.

adding a hard start capacitor to your AC might do the trick if you intend to keep your generator....

dual generators

Well I guess I have a boat anchor for a generator. So what do other travel trailer owners do for portable power ? I would get a bigger one but it can only be 20 inches tall to fit under my new $1,000 truck bed cover. Don't know what to do to have the wattage I need. As far as a noisy generator is concerned the Yamaha 2600 was not that loud at all. I'm thinking a travel trailer is not for camping out in the wilderness

Look at 2 Champion 2000w inverter generators with parallel kit. Should fit under cover.
A Champion 3100w inverter generator would be a great choice but not sure if it would fit under the cover.

Try a Powerhouse 4 kw. I just took the wheels off and it fits under the cover. Lots of power for everything and no messy extra tanks, parallel kit or expensive Honda generators. Mine cost $1100 CDN, has fuel injection, remote start as well!

Thank you for your responses, I just saw a little video on 2 2000 watt champion inverters with the parallel kit and the guy ran his travel trailer A/C and I was wondering if they would work on my 23 foot forest River Salem Travel trailer, don't know how many watts are needed for the A/C. 2 of those would fit in my truck bed. I suppose if they would run the A/C I could turn the A/C off when running the micro wave for a few minutes and I could run the fridge on propane and it might work. I'll have to look into a Powerhouse 4kw thank you

Two Champion 2000's (4000 watts surge / 3600 watts continuous) would run your AC.

I'm not sure if you would want to listen to a generator putting out 73db while running your AC. Even with no load the Powerhouse 4kw runs at 64db compared to the Champion 2000 at 53 db. Plus they are 160 lbs dry weight compared to a Champion 2000 at 48 lbs.

I think you will really like the Champion. I have had various generators over the years and the Champion 2000 is by far the best one.
It sits in my basement all winter long and starts on first pull in the spring.

Blain's Farm & Fleet has sales periodically. I bought my two Champion 73536i 2000W for $491.67 each with shipping. Found a parallel kit on eBay for $50 shipped. Running parallel, ran my 13000 BTU AC in 90 degree weather, no problem. Nice thing about having two is I can easily handle the weight of each and if one ever craps out, I have another one that will run the whole trailer less AC.
