Very weird. I would also be looking around for the hidden camera. I can get the wanting a hand it brand new.. But wanting to use my stuff.. I do not know about that.

I have never had any guests over to use my commode but I would not have any issues with their using it. I would let them know the "correct" way to use it if they were not RVers but in reality the one or two times they use it prob wont mess up much.

Can I turn this around and ask if you would ask anyone to borrow one. I would not. If I was stuck without one just about every campground rv resort etc sells them in the office or store. Or we would make a stop at a Walmart to get one before we depart. I love to help people out and don't mind loaning things but a dump hose is not one of them.

At a rally, I lent one out for a full-hookup site that was just a touch longer than the family needed. I had a 10' one that I could loan and did it happily.

Would *I* ask? Probably not- but I am much more guarded in asking for help.

I guess I've never stood around while someone else used the dump station?? I set in line in my coach till my turn then dump mine! Never found that to be a place to socialize?

At our Provincial Parks, the dump stations have 2 lanes where you enter from opposite directions and dump into holes that are only a few feet apart. I have never been asked to loan any equipment but I have had some friendly conversations there.

I have offered guidance to newbies who clearly were inexperienced and if I saw someone doing something that looked like it would cause something to splash on my TT on the opposite side I would definitely speak up.

First, I have 2. I will sell them one. I have assisted AN older couple with their equipment, well, older than me, but, will not loan a hose. Look at it this way. I have been screwed by helping but, I still help folks.
So I would put this out there. You loan your hose to someone. Say for some reason it separates and the other person disconnects and drives off. He sees it as you loaned him faulty equipment. Your hose, so guess who gets to cleanup. In other words, by loaning your equipment, you assume some responsibility. Well, FYI, I ain't cleaning up your CRAP SO NO, GET YOUR ON DAMN HOSE.

I would say no, but might rethink it if lacking a hose the guy just lets loose all over the pavement. I've seen people lay the end of the slinky next to the hole and let er rip. Next time I might say yes.

I wouldn't let someone off the street use my bathroom but a guest that's having a meal with us is different. We took the plastic off the bed, we aren't worried about the resale value

I had a porta potty in my boat years ago. It would almost always be full at the end of a day with friends on the water. Then I instituted a new policy, First one to use it emptied it. After that it came back empty about 85% of the time.

Never been asked to borrow my hose thankfully!

Did one time see a deer hunter dumping straight out of the dump valve with
no hose at all. He just pulled the valve- jumped back and when it slowed to a dribble shut the valve and drove off. Yes there were chunks laying around the drain. No I did not dump. It was late season and the dump station water was shut off so no way to do any flushing. We typically don't do the 2 in ours if the CG facilities are decent. They were so all we had was dish water and a little middle of the night pee. I drained at home with a 5 gallon bucket and poured into our toilet at home. I took his license number but didn't call it in because I knew they wouldn't do anything since it wasn't witnessed by a ranger.

I hope I never see that again!!

Always willing to lend a hand when I can or assist new campers. I certainly would help that person asking to borrow a dump hose....I would offer my advice "You need to go get your own".

Then again.....You could always offer to sell them a used, "as-is" hose for $30.00....then you could just disconnect and drive away!

Guess I am different. I would assume that their hose was broken or they accidentally left it at home. With that assumption, they can borrow mine. Not too worried about it as my crap stinks just like theirs, but I guess I don't have that elitist attitude that seems to be common in RV parks.

If they drive off with it or damage it... Oh well. I went out of my way to help someone and was burned. Wouldn't be the first time or the last time.

We seem to have two topics going here so let me see if I can respond to both in kind:

1) Guests using our facilities:

Actual guests I don't have an issue with. In fact, at one yearly Halloween weekend camp my BIL and I have neighbouring sites, but it just happens to be on the cutoff for full hookups. I have full, he's just W/E. So, at that camp it's understood that both families use ours, for both black and grey water. No problems there.

Now if a stranger knocked on the door the answer would be no. But that only happened once at a provincial park. Tent camper a site over asked, but since we were next to the public facilities (just on the other side of our site) it was easy to say no and point out where they were.

2) Dump station etiquette/socialize:

We mostly use full hookups, but the few times we've been to a park with dump stations (like the above mentioned provincial park) there's usually some degree of common courtesy socializing going on between the people in front and the people behind. Basically, what I find at most dump stations, especially when there's a line up is:

A) while waiting next in line, you pull out your gear and place it close, but not in the way of the person currently dumping. Provide necessary small talk while doing so. This gets you prepped for when it's your turn.

B) after the person moves ahead, you pull up, hook up your gear and dump. During this time you again engage in small talk with the person behind who's setting out their gear like you did in step A. Also acknowledge the person in front who's pulling away.

C) as soon as your done dumping/quickly rinsing, you move your gear out of the way of the next person and then pull ahead.

D) engage in small talk when you return to get your gear, wishing them well on their journeys. Then return and stow your gear.

It seems to flow pretty well at the dump station doing this, as your minimizing the time at the dump itself by not holding people up getting your stuff ready and holding up again storing it all. But given the OP's story, now I'd be worried about somebody trying to use it while it's sitting out.

As I was dumping at a 2 lane, 2 hole dump station, a MH with 2 dump outlets pulled up on the opposite side. We were the only two at the dump station. We talked as he hooked up his first outlet. I finished dumping and volunteered to swing my hose around to his second outlet. He declined but was very appreciative for the offer. Sounds like with the responses to this thread that my offer may have been turned down a lot...
