Dump valves open or closed for winter?

May seem like a sorta silly question but do most here leave them open or closed after winterizing?

Closed. I try to leave some pink stuff in each tank and leave them closed for that.

Some people leave them open others keep them closed. I do as ependydad does and leave them closed with some RV anti-freeze in each tank.

I learn something new everyday - I didn't know people left them open.

I would worry about critters finding a nice place to nest, unless of course you kept the cover on the sewer outlet.

See no reason to put antifreeze in an empty tank. When we winterized, left the valves open and the cap on.

Agree that there is no reason to put antifreeze in an empty tank. I leave the caps on; again no reason to leave them off; unless you want a critter making a home in your tank.

I leave mine closed because there is a little bit of pink stuff in the gray and black tanks from running the faucets until I know I have antifreeze in those lines. It's a minimal amount and doesn't hurt anything being in the tanks.

I agree, and just like putting a little antifreeze in the toilet bowls to prevent the seal from drying out I'm sure it doesn't hurt to have a little in the bottom of the tanks for the same reason.

Closed. Then again we winter camp so we winterize many times throughout the winter.

I keep mine closed after doing my annual tank maintenance (prior to winterizing), and keep the pink that sloshes down the drains in the tank to keep the seals from drying out.

FYI:

Annual tank maintenance is a thorough flush, add 1 pint of Unique RV-Digest-It to each tank, fill to top, let sit 1 week (72 hours minimum), flush again, close valves, then winterize camper.

Catalogs thrive on "solutions." I keep my valves closed to protect the seals, also.
