Ya know, if I would be retired, The General and I would be in FL right about now and I wouldn't care about the 6" of white stuff we're supposed to get!!! Anyone want to try out my new snow shovel??? Really- it's brand NEW!!!

I really thought that since I have the snow-thrower gassed up and ready in the shed next to the driveway that the storm would just stay to the east. Looks like Mother Nature is on to me.
Anyone traveling be safe and smart. Don't take the unnecessary chance.
I plan on finishing our family room Christmas tree and moving snow this weekend. We have plenty of milk, bread and TP so we're ready.Thankfully our daughter is already home from college for the holidays.

Were stocked up and ready for it. I did sell my snow blower some years ago since we haven't had much snow for a long time. Oh well, That 2500HD parked in the garage from our 5th wheel days will pack it down. Still gotta go afer my son-in-law at National today. Should be home before it starts. Have a great Hollidays.

Kim, the radar is showing that Lynchburg is already on the leading edge of the storm. No sign yet of anything in Greene County......about 4 counties NNW of you. As reported by the missus working in Charlottesville, , no snow there yet, either. But it sure do look like it.

Chap, as of 2:50pm nothing was falling yet, but the radar shows it here. Probably not hitting the ground yet. It sure feels like it could start at any moment.

Not long ago channel 11 here in Maryland, Northern Carroll County showed snow fall from 24"-36". It looks like I well be able to try out the 4 wheel drive in my new truck.

Dang!... I really want to get out of this heat and head up into that stuff. First year in about 5 that we don't get to head up there and look what we get to miss. The other year it got brutally cold, no real snow, but this would have been awesome!

Oh well, have to just go fishin...

My daughter arrived about an hour ago from college 8:00pm for the holidays as well. No more jitters. Here is what I saw for our area on tv. The bright red mark on the map is our location.

It has just started to snow here. It has rained for the last 3 hours so everything is wet. Hope it doesn't freeze. That would get ugly. We are expecting 3 to 6 inches of snow by Sunday AM.

18" inches this morning in my driveway in Charlottesville at 7:30 AM.

Seems like ~18 to ~24 inches is the norm so far around Richard's and my area. Sherando reported 27", but that is in the mountains. Still calling for 6 to 10 inches more through today and early tonite. Right now, it doesn't look like it is letting up a bit.

Haven't been outside to measure, and don't really know how since the snow is blowing and drifting.

With this major storm while trying to keep up with the snow fall on your driveways and side walks for those members that have Heatpump try to keep a min of 36" clear around the out door units, and for those that have a 90+ gas furnace make sure that the intake on the out side of the house is kept clear. If the snow blocks the intake pipe you will have no heat. And I hope that if for some reason we loose power because of the heavy snow everyone has a secondary heat source, like a fireplace, wood stove or maybe a propane fireplace.

I ventured out today to make a spot for the dog to do his business, help some stuck motorists, and to do a smash and run to make my driveway passable.

I did some measuring in the back yard away from structures, and came up with numbers between 22 and 24 inches, so I will call it at 23 inches here in Ruckersville, VA. But that was at 2p, and it is still snowing. This is the most snow we have had in this area since Jan. 1996.

I don't know, what does it do?

We got 50 degrees and mist here in the Northwest.

Mtnguy: Looks like you need to figure out a way to put a snow plow on the front of your TJ there. I had thought about it with my first house as I was 1/4mile back off the road on a private drive.
