Electric vs. Hydraulic Landing Gear?????

I have owned two travel trailers over the past 20 years, and now considering upgrading to a 2010 5th wheel Forest River 25RL it runs 7440 lb dry, GVWR 11400 lbs with a hitch weight of 1240 lbs.

My question is to the forum members has to do with electric vs. hydraulic landing gear. There seems to be an additional $400.00 if I wanted to order my trailer with hydraulics. What is the difference between the two other than the obvious? Is one better than the other and would it be worth the extra money, or would I be throwing good money away by ordering the hydraulics?

The only thing that has been explained to me regarding the difference was the speed of the raising and lowering the trailer. I was told that the electric jacks were faster.

So I just wanted to put this out and get any and all opinions from everyone.

We have electric on ours and it really seems to be slow and straining to lift trailer. I would think hydr. would be much better and worth the xtra because I can see down the road the electric will burn out . Wonder if dealer has anything in stock to demo

Well I guess that has me leaning more toward the hydraulic lifts at this point then.

Having owned both, the hydraulic is much faster. Plus, because the front legs share a single pressure line, they are also self leveling. Can't comment about the quality of either system, never had a problem with either. I do, however, like the hydraulic much better.

I can fix most anything that goes wrong with my electrics all by myself.

I would be lost with a dead hydraulic system, but that's just me. And my trailer only weighs 7800 loaded.

Thanks guys for all of the replies so far on the landing gear, you all have been very helpful. I can understand what was said about working on electric lifts in the event there is problem as opposed to the hydraulics. However, I am still leaning toward the hydro lifts, but I have time and will hold off for awhile before ordering it with either lift.
