Elkhart, IN Visit

Hello All

I was planning to make a stop in Elkhart, In to go to the RV museum. I wanted to visit the R-pod plant but they will not have any R-pod in production until the end of June.

What else is there to do in Elkhart or surrounding area?

15 mile east of Elkhart is Shipshewana . Large Amish Community. Downtown there are many shops. On Tuesdays & Wednesday's they have a large auction and Flea market just south of downtown. Lots of home grown vegetables and about anything for sale.

Rise & roll bakery on HWY 20 east of Middlebury. Essenhaus restaurant in Middlebury on HWY 20. Flippin Cow restaurant in Elkhart. Best hamburgers!!

Hudson car museum in Shipshewana. Just to drive around the country side near Shipshewana and see the beautiful gardens & flowers of the Amish homes is great.

Not sure how long your going to be in the area? There are several tours you can go on if your interested in the Amish culture. Go to the visitors center in Shipshewana. They have audio tours and also "ride along guides".
Visitor center is just south of downtown Shipshewana on the west side of the street.

The Blue Gate restaurant in Shipshewana great also .

At the North end of Shipshewana there is a large 4 story building. Commercial shops in it. In the middle of the building they have a large tree--must be 40+ foot tall. It is part of the buildings structure.

On the 4th floor they have a working calliope. You can ride on it. I might have a picture of it.

In town Shipshewana One block east of the main N-S. Hwy. 5. Every house is a shop. About two blocks of them. Crafts, quilts, antiques and etc. neat shops. Museum & Shipshewana make for a full day.
