Exclusive threads
Something I have noticed this last month is folks getting their pants in a knot because they felt the thread they were posting to should be exclusive their rig their type of fuel their pets etc.
One of the things I like about FR forum is that it has been from my experience all inclusive and makes no difference how big your rig your wallet or your ego is. I hope it stays that way.
My advice and hope is those who feel the pinch while posting that want to say you are not welcome in this thread, take a deep breath, have a cup of coffee or a beer or in my case a gin and tonic and embrace the responses they are what make this forum fun and enlightening.
Am I wrong?

I have a totally different position on this. Try Rum and tonic with lime.

If you waited for someone to reply who had the exact same setup as you, you'd be waiting a very long time. I may not have exactly what you have but they have enough in common.

I hesitate to post on some of the MH stuff. I see mostly MH people say...I only want MH people to respond. I will tell you one thing. You will get corrected if you post something questionable. There are a lot of educated people out there...most of the time it is correct too..most of the time.

We have issues with this on both the A-frame and Pop-up forums. The fridge (in particular) and electrical systems are just different enough from the big boys that the advice given is sometimes very confusing. Being smaller and cheaper, we get a lot of first-time owners who do not understand the differences, and aren't aware that they need to look at what the poster has for an RV before taking the advice to heart.
Because I have never owned anything but a PUP or A-frame, I make it my policy to stay out the specific forums for the bigger RVs.
just my thoughts, others may differ

Likewise, there are times when the information is specific to the RV. In an attempt to help with out specific knowledge of the RV sends a lot of new campers on a wild goose chase !

This forum is a great place to get questions answered with that said a person needs to take what is posted with a grain of salt, its just like getting advice in the barber shop or local bar some may be good and some not take it in rattle it around in your brain box and decide what you want to keep and what to get rid of. with that said basic trouble shooting technique applies to all RVs regardless of cost or size and it has been my observation that most of the posters try to provide this basic level.

Just because a person who owns a Class A replies to a trailer post , that does not mean that they did not own a trailer in the past.
If a poster needs an answer that applies specifically to their year, make and model RV, then they need to go tho their dealer and pay the $$$.

I'll be more specific as to what happens and why it creates bad feelings.
A new owner of a PUP or A-frame is trying to understand why his battery is flat so often. An owner of a larger RV, not realizing the thread is under PUP or A-Frames, pipes in and tells him to use the disconnect switch to disconnect the battery when in storage. Another tells him to turn off the dehumidify circuit on his fridge to save power. As most (but not all) know, PUPs and A-frames do not have battery disconnect switches unless an owner installs one. And the fridges draw zero DC power when run on propane. And the fridges do not have automatic ignition on propane, so if the flame blows while driving the fridge stops cooling.
In another case, a new PUP owner was asking about dealing with his awning in high winds. Lots of advice from larger RV owners about using power retraction system (PUP roof can't take the stress or weight) or staking down the awning real securely (can over-stress the roof lift system and make the canvas not fit right).
I always thought that that is what these forums are for - to share information. The problem is and remains how to prevent wrong information from being presented as gospel. I see no easy solution other than to keep my mouth shut unless I really know what I'm talking about. Even then, when I do make an error, I need to say so to prevent somebody from acting on bad info.

I'll agree. Only time I jump into another category is if it is generic such as TPMS, Tires (maybe), brakes, camping sites, etc.
But it will happen; can't stop it.

The solution is actually very simple if people would take the time to look at the heading prior to jumping in because the heading tells you what group the question is coming from,, this thread is coming from the General Community discussions.
then of course there are those who jump in with off topic answers because they never take the time to read the entire post.
but like others have said, Want expert advice, call a specialist and pay the fee.

I have found that sometimes the forum location is clipped off and I sometimes do not actually see where I am when I answer. I can deal with the erroneous stuff at times, since you do get what you pay for... But I have issue when you are hot with hostility and down right rudeness..

[QUOTE=doc73 partial anyway

I see this also. If people(like me) are trying to help then why be rude to them? Someone will usually correct them(as they have done me) and go on about the business of being a community of RVers. I am kinda tender and it has abraded me a couple times when someone insinuated that me or others were stupid in their answers. I see both sides and I agree with people making assumptions they know about, but this is public and we are dealing with people. JMO
