Expensive hobby

We are starting to make a list of items we want to purchase in preparation for delivery on our new Salem Hemisphere 263RL. The cost is going to add up pretty quickly!!! This isn't a surprise to us, as we had a pop-up while the kids were growing up, but we are adding to that list at a quick rate. Now, we don't need to buy everything at once. That is the fun of it, really. We dream, compare, consider, and take a while before we make purchases. That prevents buyers remorse and the purchase of things you really don't need or want. We took about eight months to dream and shop for our new unit, for instance.

What are some of the things you could not do without? I'd love to hear it!

Don't buy the cheapest acc. (Sewer, water hose) or any other acc. Get the good ones that you know you will use and be dependable.

I got a cheap charcoal grill right now. Wished I had bought the grill i wanted now.

Look and see if you are going to really need it and go have fun and see what other have and see if what you thought was actually the better choice. It's hard to make a great decision if you don't even know what is all out there to choose from.

Buying things for the camper is the most fun of all. The DW and I love to go shopping and buy little things to make the camping experience even better. In fact we even have a bypass to the usual appropriations committee rules if the purchase is "for the trailer".

The wife even tries to use that when she buys herself a Coach bag on 5th Ave. lol. Happy wife - Happy life.

I love this grill. It can go gas or charcoal. The first time we used it I cooked the steaks in two minutes and they were a bit crispy :-)

Now that I know that it takes very little gas or charcoal to get the same amount of heat I wouldn't be without it. Works great for marshmallow roasting too

An electric griddle for additional cooking surfaces.

A cast iron skillet properly seasoned.

A game console for the kids on rainy days along with assorted board games (or is that bored games? )

GPS that speaks in four languages and accepts a dog tails' for input. (kidding on the tail but it is fun to switch it over to German once in a while and the British accent is fun for the kids)

Surge protector

Hose that's on a reel b/c I'm just lazy that way.

Self leveling jacks. See above...

Sleep number bed (It's on my wish list right now)

Rubber matting for the cupboards or anywhere things might slide or bang around

Oh man, that's cool! I love the taste of charcoal, but I don't always like the work or mess. How hard and realistic is it to switch between fuels? Is it realistic within a week to go from charcoal, to propane, and back to charcoal?

It takes about a minute to switch fuels. To go from gas to charcoal you pull out the drop in heating element and heat plate. Then drop in the lower grill for the charcoal. Everything stores in a carry all tote.

I agree on the electric griddle. Don't know why we waited so long.
Nice coffee brewer. We're Keurig folks, but I know everyone has a favorite.
An electric cooler. It's an extra seating/storage area and we never have enough room in fridge for drinks.
Anti gravity chairs.
Firewood tongs.
Nice furry blankets for chilly nights by the fire or in the recliners.
Board (I mean bored) games.
One of the best things we got on advice from a neighbor was a soap/shampoo dispenser that we got at Camping World. It was cheap, easy to install, and save sooo much space in a crowded shower. We want one at home now.
Extra vent covers. If/when sunlight and acorns or hail or tree branches don't mix you don't want to have to run out and get one.
Surge protector.
Outside carpet or at least step covers to keep gunk outside. And inside throw rugs for same reason. And a good compact vacuum cleaner. It's not only an expensive hobby...it's also always a dirty hobby.

A couple of aluminum folding tables are very handy, inside and outside. Light and fold fairly flat for easy storage.

A box of vinyl gloves for dumping your tanks and a bottle of hand sanitizer to make you feel even better afterwards.

A decent tire pressure gauge. A tire plug kit and a small compressor.

A small electric heater. Personally I like this Vornado model. It's the best one I've found concerning heat/noise ratio. I'm a pretty light sleeper and it usually doesn't wake me up as it turns on.

It's easy to overload the rv with things you'll rarely or never use! Take daily stuff from your home bathroom & kitchen and comfort items and try a long weekend/shakedown trip to see what works, what's needed and what you can leave behind.
