One of my all time heroes is Richard Schreder, of Bryan, Ohio. He designed and produced kits of several sailplanes and many were home-built. I knew him when I was a kid through my older brother's dealings with soaring. I later built one of his kits. He was of Dutch decent and his name was pronounced - skreeder - instead of - shrader - as the Germans would speak. I met Dick when I was 10, and I was always amazed at how he remembered me, and always took an interest in how I was doing. He was a true gentleman and a genius. He made his fortune by selling the rights to his drafting machine to K&S, and also had a Piper Aircraft dealership. So, I, in my small way, try to honor my old friend's name, as he honored me with his friendship.

Did a lot of dumb, dangerous things when I was growing up, and have had a few close calls in my 20+ years in the fire service.

I had a scooter that I towed on our class c and my dog used to ride with me and DW all over the place. So Scootdawg. I since sold the scooter so I should probably change it to Mike now.

You sound familiar...

Five years in our rural volunteer department taught me a lot about firefighting and firefighters!
