Extended run for Champion 2000w inverter gen

I would like to add an external fuel supply to the 2 Champion gens I run in parallel . Since the fuel delivery is a gravity feed system, I'm thinking about teeing into the supply line from the internal tank to the carb.

I will add a fuel selector valve to switch between the internal and external fuel tank with a quick disconnect. I have a couple of military jerry cans that I can reduce down to a fuel line barb fitting and run fuel line to the gen.

I will have to put the jerry can on a support to elevate it above the carb for gravity to do its thing.

Just brainstorming now....Thoughts????

Tim, if you've every dry camped using a portable generator, there's nothing more frustrating than running out of fuel at 4am while running the A\C trying to stay comfortable . I found out firsthand with my 3000i Champion that will run for 5.5-6 hrs tops before running dry.
Through experience, I can time it so that if I fill up around midnight I'm good to go until I get up anyways. Extended run-time is a great idea.
Captain America, let us know how you make out.

Most of my dry camping is in campgrounds that don't allow generators to run from 10pm to 7am

You can buy pre-made extended run kits here:

Generator Brands for Extended Run Generator Fuel Systems | Life Warranty

And there are several videos on youtube showing where people have done the same.

You may can pick up some ideas from both.

i have two of these. One for each of my 2000w generators in parallel.

I have a shell on my truck and cut boards so they fit over the rails and act as a shelf. The generators fit under them.

I have used this 2 separate weekends where Temps were 90-100 in daytime and high 70-80s at night. Never had an issue

While dry camping in Texas, it's nice to have AC. I don't want to baby sit generators every 4 hrs. I really don't want to wake up during the night and have to mess with fueling a generator.

Hard to go back to sleep smelling like gas.

I have a 6 gallon nurse tank that has 2 output lines going to my 2 Hondas. Have valves to shut off one or the other fuel line if I run one generator at a time. There is a kit to replace/modify the original gas caps to enable this. You replace the breather valve in the cap with a 1/8" nipple. I would think Champion would have the same thing available.

Also, no need to place the nurse tank above the generators. Mine is actually below and is drawn into the tank as needed. The system just has to be air tight which has not been a problem. I just replace the fuel lines about every 3-4 years.

I could be wrong

As I have neither the Honda or the champion, but from my reading trying to decide which to invest in, I believe that the Honda has a fuel pump and that the champion is gravity feed, so two different animals when setting up extended run systems

Yet another reason to not buy champion

Yes, I have contacted them, and they do not offer a duel extended run because champions are gravity fed. According to their website, they have a single extended run, which I guess I can buy two.

Hondas have a fuel pump to draw fuel out of external tank. I have to work with gravity.

I thought about adding a hose barb to the fuel cap, but don't know if cap will seal enough to keep fuel from leaking.

Have you checked youtube? I thought I recalled seeing one by a guy who made it for a champion where he added his own pump.

Here's one for a Champion inverter type generator, which I am "assuming" you are using.

I have Hondas and no experience with the Champions but assume they have some similarities. While I dont run mine on an extended tank if I did I would run synthetic oil vs. dino. Check your manual for oil change intervals and from what I have seen it wont take long before it's due. They dont hold a lot of oil anyway so keeping up with your maintenance is something to be mindful of when using extended run tanks. Just my.02

I did the same thing with a Generac 2000. I went in EBay and found the cap and a boat tank.

The Honda manual calls for oil change every 100 hours. Sometimes that's not possible but lots of folks regularly exceed that number. I recently ran my two 2000's for 190 hours without shutting down. When I got home and changed the oil it was just as clean coming out as when it went in.

I use the B.E.R.G. tank to feed both units and get 30+ hours between fill ups even running the AC continuously.

parallel 2000's

Hi, I see many of you run the dual gen set-up. Any of you power up a 15,000 btu AC unit? Any advice? I'm looking to purchase a set of Honda's but also like the Generac reviews. - Thanks!
