Extended Service Plans

I have read here and other blogs about extended service plans. As a seasonal camper whose camper remains land locked, we have begun looking into this. Do any of you have extended service plans still? Pros and cons? Our camper is a 2015 Rockwood. We are considering the Good Sam plan as they do cover mileage for 'house calls'. Thanks for your thoughts.

We regret that in Wisconsin, the camper is winterized until April 15.

Extended Service Plans, on any item, are a gold mine for the industry that sells them. I don't buy them for anything.

That was our thought too, but wanted to hear from others. The cost is about $1500 . . . we can tuck that money into an IRA and do better if something goes wrong. So thanks for confirming what we thought.

It is what they cover that I don't like. I can replace an AC or other smaller things and I can do a lot of the work. I would want them to cover delamination and frames because they will be expensive and I have not found a plan that covers those.

I'm a seasonal as well and I think we have a lot less wear and tear on our trailers simply because they aren't being bumped and jostled down the road all the time.

We just finished up our first full year with our new trailer with almost no problems at all. I agree with investing the $1500 and only use it if something comes up.

I am very dubious of those plans. My brother in law used to sell them for cars, he got better commissions when he talked people into gold plans from the silver and bronze. I agree with above that there could be a difference between seasonal or full time versus just through the summer, with the constant off and on of the items could eventually cause electrical problems etc. How much is it to replace the motherboard on a frig versus the cost of the plan.

For those buying certain new Forest River units, their 'Second Year Warranty' for $150 is a must. Our RV Service Center's $119/hour charge will eat that up in no time. Even if one doesn't use it, the 'peace of mind' is worth that much!
