F150 ecoboost & trailer reco's

New to site. recent retired couple Looking for information?
6 cly ecoboost F150, What length and total weight of trailer do you think we should look into buying that would allow us to travel safely but have some comfort. Want to take to Alaska for 2-3 months and then leave in FL as an extra guest bedroom. Thinking about 21-25ft.? Prefer queen bed, real cooking oven and a high quality unit. Any information is appreciated as we are brand new to RV'ing THANKS.

That ecoboost will pull just about anything! Just a matter of deciding if you want a ball hitch or 5th wheel. As for stove mine came with an apartment size propane stove w oven. But mine is a destination trailer to.

If you want a "high quality" unit, you should probably stay away from the ultra-light campers, as they admittedly cut a few corners. Thus, heavier construction will mean a shorter camper.
You could no doubt pull mine, so you would be safe with a 24 or 25-foot fifth wheel of heavier construction. But if you want to feel really comfortable driving long distances, and it seems you might well be doing that, I would ask to test drive one first.
For a bumper-hitch camper, 25 feet would probably be plenty to handle.

Since you might use it in Florida, look for the best insulated camper you can find. 2 inch walls with R14 or so in the floor and roof should be ok.

The Sabres have solid construction, and seem well made. And the Prime Time campers look as good or better.

It might depend on what model you have. We got the FX2 SuperCrew with the 6.5 bed and 3.55 gears along with the Ecoboost. With our setup, the payload capacity and hitchweight were big factors in our choice of trailer. We ended up with a 2012 Tracer 230FBS. 25 ft, short queen, oven, full fridge, outdoor kitchen w/small fridge, one slide out and good sized shower. We haven't gone anywhere yet since we just bought the TT, but in stocking it and just getting to know it we are very pleased. The Ecoboost pulled it like a dream so far (200 miles, avg 9.3 in Okie winds) with an Equalizer hitch.

Initial results on the new Ford Ecoboost are looking great. Hopefully they'll do good in the long run as well.

Here is some F 150 ecoboost information. Just returned from a 675 mile trip to Canada and back. The truck (2011 Platinum p/u with total 4,490 miles) pulling 19ft fibreglass boat. Total weight of truck,boat gear, 2 people =9,990 Lbs.
Before trip average fuel reading was 17.6 since new. That dropped to 17.1 after trip
The trip "b" setting average 14.7 mpg.. Drove mostly 65 in 60 mile zones and 60 in 55 mile zones. Was very happy with the 14.7 mpg and will start looking this week for a TT. Thanks for all the replies. BG

Don't expect that 14.7 mpg when you get the travel trailer, unless you get a fold down. The differences in frontal areas between the boat and TT is huge, and that is what will hurt your mileage. I used to pull Trailmanor that weighed in arourd 3500 lbs, and was getting an average of 15.3 mpg. Now with a full sized TT, I am getting in the middle to high 10s and low 11s......big difference.

When you are looking for a high quality trailer, try not to let names guide you. We spent the bucks for a Holidar Rambler and it turned out to be the worst trailer we ever owned in 41 years and 10 trailers worth of camping. Our two best were our Sunline and Flagstaff, followed closely by our Prowler.
