Factory Ram 5th wheel prep

I bought a 3500 SRW Ram that has the factory 5th wheel and goose neck prep and was wondering do you use the plastic outside ring with the hitch installed or did you take them out completely and throw them in the garage? I know the center has to come out put will the outside ring still fit? They don't snap in very tight and after I spray the bed with liner I don't know how well they will fit. Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

The video on the Etrailer site shows the outer ring staying in place. Just the center cover comes out.
