Fan-tastic Vent (Fan)
Anyone install a vent cover over this fan?
Maxx Air makes one for high speed fans. The Fan-tastic Vent literature says not to install Maxx Air covers over the vent. I would guess the Maxx Air cover made for these type fans would be acceptable. No?
I have the Create-a-Breeze model, and would like to install something like this:

Yes. I installed one over the standard issue three-speed exhaust fan on my Flagstaff. Works fine.

I'm a little slow and confused...
Did both of you install the cover as linked above over your fan?
Or did you install one of the 'standard' covers over your fan?

These fans move a whole lotta air, and I'm sure that's why they don't want you to cover it. But the covers MADE specifically for these HI/VOL fans seem ok to me. I may give it a try. (of course these covers cost 3 times the standard model)

They sure do. Watch for a sale at camping world. Of course, since you are stationary, you could buy a cupola from Lowe's or some such place and stick it up there. That would look cool and give others something to talk about.

Jolly,
I went with these over the regular vents(kitchen & bedroom).
They claim to have 30% more open vent area than standard vent covers, with vents on 3 sides instead of just 1. They also hinge open for cleaning, with no extra parts to buy.
I'll be adding one over my Create-a-Breeze fan in the bathroom.

I use these also. Seem to work great. A friend of mine has a motor home and he asked me how the auto close when raining would work. Mine does not have this feature. I have used the fan in some pretty intense rain storms with no problem.

How long have you owned these vent covers? Someone told me the plastic doesn't hold up to the elements well. Wondered whether it was true or not.

Ok...I ordered one of these today:
MaxxAir model 800:
I shopped around, and found them to be just as high on the net w/shipping costs as to buy local from my dealer. (around $90)
There is a cheaper model (400) but there is no screen or louvers.

Good to hear. I'll be installing the model 800 next week when I pick it up.

OK how did you all attach your covers over the fantastic fan?? I have done the normal regular vents, drill use nut and bolt etc. With the FF I don't know how to get inside to attach the nut, it's all enclosed.
Help,
Paul B

Very simply put...the regular MaxxAir vent covers are not designed to go over the high volume Fantastic Fans. The MaxxAir model 800 is made for this purpose. The 800 uses self tapping type screws instead of the nut/lock washers on the basic model. They screw right into the vent. It works great.

Do you remember how long the self tapping screws were?? I don't want to short anything out.
Thanks,

Yes, instructions state to not drill any deeper than 1/2'' into the plastic housing. They were 8/32'' self tapping stainless screws.
