Fifth wheel and tow vehicle

We are planning on getting a Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite. Its the 8285 IKWS. The tow vehicle we would be using would be a Toyota Tundra CrewMax with the 5.7 L iForce v8. The main concern we have is regarding the length of the bed in this truck because it is so short. It is 5 1/2 ft. Would we have any issues towing this? The fifth wheel we are looking at has the Reese Revolution hitch. Thank you for your help.

Forgot to mention, we are also worrying about the cargo weight. Our truck is rated at 1,296 pounds and the hitch weight of the fifth wheel is 1,186. So technically I would be over in cargo weight when I add in people.

If your figures are correct and I do not they are or not.
Are you planning on a second rig to haul the people, food and water?

Revolution would work well, I use it with my 5 1/2 foot box. What is the max tow weight involved hear? The truck is equipped with trailer tow package?

Yes it does have the tow package. We are beginning to just rule this fifth wheel out unfortunately. It isn't worth potentially damaging the truck or putting ourselves and others in danger.

It looks like we will be sticking with travel trailers.

There are 5er's with lighter pin wts., i.e.Flagstaff 8528RKWS @ 1075#. A couple 100# shouldn't damage the truck. Put LR E tires on it an get a lighter pin wt 5er.

I would agree with you, but he is already so close to the max., driver, wife, kids, stuff and not to mention 200# for the hitch and mounting rails. It can get dicey fast especially with a short wheelbase truck. He'll be carrying 50% more cargo than he's supposed to in a hurry.

as you have found, the weak point for a 1/2 ton to tow a 5th wheel, is PAYLOAD!

very few 1/2 tons have enough payload for a 5th wheel's pin weight PLUS passengers and cargo in the truck.

So we have found a rockwood travel trailer with a hitch weight of 954 pounds. It is similar to the floorplan we wanted in the fifth wheel. Once again the truck has a cargo capacity of 1,296 pounds. This is all new to us, so would this be cutting it too close?
